Read this: How do you tell your daughter anymore what is or is not appropriate in the age of praise of wildness and freedom and expression? Do you scream at her? Put some clothes on! Wipe that shit off your face! when she is just trying to find her identity and her masks and her “Fuck you”. How do I explain that her rebellion is actually conforming to an over-sexualized consumer culture? How do you teach her to love her body and then turn around and tell her to hide it well so she doesn’t get attacked? How do you tell her that Instagram is the new stripper pole and hundreds of ”likes” are the dollar bills. How do you tell her where we have come from and what her source of power really is? I want her to be uninhibited. A sexual being, because the power… it is there, too. I have an untameable girl and she honours her mother’s mother’s mother as she purposefully rolls up her skirt and waits watching for the look on my face watching her father cringe and she is every teenager who is lost and trying to tell us tell us tell US “THIS IS WHO WE ARE! Right now! So fuck you.” And it is not what I imagined and I think This is not what I taught you. But it is. I said “Be true to yourself” Right now the world tells her the truth is tits and ass. So all i can do is be proud of her screaming, because one day she will hear the messages of the deeper world and recognize her own voice and it will speak differently to her. Her power will surge, she will take off her mask and truly reveal herself.
