Had so much fun performing music and sharing the stage with these amazing comedians last week for the @mixedremixed Storytellers Prize Ceremony – which went to David Oyelowo (Selma) 🙌🌟 Thank you x 1 million to @mixedremixed, friends, and family for coming out to celebrate. This festival was my first live show in LA 3 years ago and now it’s my third time performing here! I can’t thank you enough founder and organizers Heidi Durrow, Rayme Cornell, Team MixedRemixed and the volunteers for putting in such hard work each year to bring everyone together. i’m still processing my big ol’ heart’s gratitude for the Smithsonian Ae’ Kai culture lab✨🌺This was my first time exhibiting a personal room-scale virtual reality piece to the public. And it’s a pretty different (nervewracking!) feeling to suddenly invite someone you just met into a world you’ve been making on a laptop in your bedroom. 🔆TROVE is a time-capsule stocked with treasured objects & the stories behind them. For many people (from 5 years old to 83), it was their first time ever trying VR. It was such a learning experience seeing their emotions, reactions, and feedback hands on – I was writing down ideas for new interactions to build, and listening to stories of their own treasured objects! A few young folks were inspired to dev VR to tell stories of their own. For a little over a month, I’ve been documenting chosen objects and their stories. Each item is 3D scanned into vr using photogrammetry. We can see & interact with these objects up close in a virtual world combining film and music. My dream is to continue documenting more treasured objects in different countries around the world, so we can revisit them in portals like this. It’s a moment where we can see ourselves in the stories of fellow human beings, and perhaps in the distant future, our ancestors. ✨Like traveling time.
