Here’s why:
I’m raising money to give to OXFAM in their campaign to end the largest humanitarian crisis on the planet:
Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes in the wake of the South Sudanese civil war. Hundreds of thousands have been killed.
Millions have lost everything they had.
All proceeds go to the men, women and children of this terrible conflict.
Love from Uganda,
Daniel.

Mano a Mano a Puerto Rico (hand to hand for PR) are helping people across PR, day after day, even when our government and media has all but abandoned any effort to resurrect this community.
anything is something.
a couple of bucks even, is enough to give someone a meal perhaps…?
appreciate the support.
love you guys,

birds, feather, etc.
this kid approached us on day 4. he spoke beautiful english and actually translated something I was trying to say to a local, without any prompting… after speaking to him for a little while, he told me the chilling story of what happened to his people and his village in equatoria.
this young man had narrowly escaped death, hiding in the bushes for weeks, before walking a treacherous path to Uganda.
help me help the refugees of the south sudanese civil war.
HIT THE LINK in my BIO now.
Everything I raise will be donated to these people.
Peace,
DG

Every little donation counts.
A couple of bucks even… The people of Puerto Rico need us. This campaign is to raise 150k to feed 4000 people a day for one month. At the moment we are feeding 2000 but the demands are growing every day. People are desperate. 100% of the donations go to cover food, drinking water and basic supplies for the people of PR.
Hundreds of these heroes/chefs on the island have banded together to help feed those who need most: Hospitals, elderly homes, workers, refugees and children.
Let’s do something today.
Love,
DG
PS — I apologize for my shitty camera work.

the campaign has kicked ass.
particularly in the last several days. travel and SDCC in the middle of the campaign didn’t help things, so I’d like to do it justice and raise money for a further week.
i am so tremendously grateful for both your contributions and the conversations generated about the massive exodus in Eastern Africa. millions of people have lost their homes and lives — for some reason our media has decided that the horrific Civil War of South Sudan isn’t important enough to discuss.
so, fuck it.
let’s be loud about this.
until it’s over.
i feel so privileged to have participated in this. with you all.
love,
dg.
beautiful people — yes, I’m enjoying the wonders of SDCC, but i can’t relent on the campaign:

kids.
one of the startling things about the refugee settlements of Uganda is the sheer number of children.
women and children.
but mostly children.
an estimated 63% of the population.
many of whom have lost their parents.
like any kids, they’re playing and laughing and wreaking the typical mayhem. they’re also living in a situation where there simply isn’t sufficient medical care, rigorous sanitation or food — never mind education. at the end of the day people like OXFAM and UNICEF and World Vision are doing everything they can… it’s enough to offer refuge from certain indignities.
but it’s not enough to solve the deeper issue:
until the international community does something to facilitate a cease-fire in the South Sudan, these kids aren’t going anywhere.
thank you to everyone who supported this campaign.
thank you to OXFAM for the most heartbreaking/inspiring experience of my adult life. thank you for your unrelenting efforts for those without a voice.
for those who haven’t participated, go here: represent.com/gillies or simply HIT THE LINK in my BIO.

all money raised will be used to help children like these.
millions of kids torn from their homes because of a war our media barely wants to acknowledge.
the civil conflict of South Sudan.

this is not bullshit. (plus i’m reasonably certain @therock will comply…) HIT the LINK in my BIO to smell what I’ve been cooking. GET ONE OF THESE T-shirts.
all money raised will be donated to OXFAM and their crusade for the millions of refugees devastated by the civil war in South Sudan.
over a million have fled to Uganda alone.
the response from the global community has been a disgracefully quiet…
let’s not be quiet about this.
as much as I love this campaign, the conversation about peace in the South Sudan is far more significant.

slow-mo that i’m showing the kids in the last post.
This is Joyce.
Though she’d lost virtually everything to the brutal conflict in South Sudan, Joyce assumed the role of caretaker to many local children.
15, to be precise.
Most of whom were not her own blood.
Several of whom were orphans.
Rock. Star.
Let’s fight this terrible situation together.

you gotta see this.
f*cking run don’t walk.
restored my faith a little.
congratulations @davidpatricklowery
the road to Bidi Bidi.
the largest refugee settlement in the world, it’s estimated size is around 56 square kilometers.
what strikes you is how incredibly resourceful its inhabitants are. not only have they built dwellings and started small crops… but there are markets, stores, churches and schools.
it’s like a collective defiance against the adversity.
SEE THE LINK IN MY BIO?
go hit it.
i’m raising money to help these people.
so can you.
there’s a desperate shortage of food and medical supplies, among many other things…. they’re not victims.
they’re survivors.
that doesn’t mean they don’t need our help.
love,
d.
ANY HELP WE CAN GET —
so these heroes created a fund to help feed those in desperate need. a group of chefs from Puerto Rico and hundred of volunteers have been able to feed almost 3000 people a day.
however because they have grown rapidly over the last several days — they now require a lot more.
yesterday alone they provided food to 5 municipalities, Carolina Hospital patients and staff as well as 5 elderly homes.
it’s insane: people are dying and suffering from insufficient food and water.
please CLICK THE LINK IN MY BIO to help.
let’s do what we can.
amidst all of the other turmoil, this might feel pretty damn good.
love,
dg.
