Season 5 of #znation premieres on Oct 5th. Citizen Z is with the crew this year. Had so much fun. And a hearty welcome to @thekatyo and @lydiahearst. Two amazing actors who killed it. You’re going to love them. AND a big welcome BACK to my homie @annyawesome.
You should see the other guy. #nationalselfieday #znation
Feeling fly for 80 bucks. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to dress like a boss. Shirt $20, sport coat $40, jeans $20. All on sale from H&M. (The shoes were a gift from Prada) @entertainmentweekly, thanks for always inviting me to THE ComicCon party. It’s like a reunion for us. You get to see people you’ve worked with over the years and catch up; reconnect with them. Happy #sdcc, everyone. #sdcc2018
$26 haircut, feeling like a new man. I would like to thank Mike at @floyds99barbershop Studio City for the cut and @ty.olsson for the encouragement to venture out without a hat. Haven’t done that in years. #newhaircut #feelingmyself #trumpsucks
This human, @lydiahearst, I love her. What a great surprise, Lydia, that you were cast on my show…now your show. You handled this ComicCon with so much dignity. It’s an honor to know you and to be your friend. Here’s to a new friendship and a lifetime of knowing you. I’ll always have your back.
My Z Nation lovelies serving up some face on the @imdb yacht at San Diego ComicCon. This is my favorite group shot from our press day. Photo courtesy of Getty Images. Is this the right way to do it, @lydiahearst? Do you hashtag #gettyimages? Or do you do @gettyimages? #sdcc #sdcc2018 #znation #sandiego #learningtouseinstagram
I’m in Vancouver in my happy place with people I love so much. Although my time is done on the show that brought me here, it gave me this life and these wonderful people. #sohappy #vancouver #reunited #moosevancouver Here’s to the next chapter and knowing these people my whole life.
On the train to San Diego for Comic Con. Getting a ton of weird looks. Took a selfie and saw that this hat/glasses/beard combo looks like I’m attempting to wear a disguise—the kind of disguise worn in low budget comedies. @lydiahearst’s trip down was much more glamorous than this. I wonder if it’s a secret we are working together? #comiccon #sdcomiccon possible #spoileralert #themanbesidemetalkslikePaulLynde. #znation
Boom! I just won $730 on a $12 bet at Del Mar!!!! Kids, avoid the stock market, bet on the ponies and do it at @striderssandiego. #nothingcangowrongnow
How does one tell Croatian movie star, Goran Bogdan that flying to Zagreb last minute isn’t financially practical? That if I visit him in September after I wrap Z Nation, I can use those savings to go to Egypt for 2 weeks in November, see everything, do a Nile cruise…for the SAVINGS from the airline ticket by just delaying my trip until September. There will probably even be money left over to visit people in New York. BUT, if you still want me to come on Sunday, I’ll book a ticket. There is a vulnerable gas station a few blocks away…#askingforafriend #thisisalsohowibreakup #propose #anounceadeath #yougetme
Old guys can still be sexy. It’s not Sunday, but here are two things that I love. Welcome to the family, little bronze seated Osiris, Egyptian 664-332 BC and little ushabti (it’s a burial figure) with hand painted hieroglyphics, Egyptian 1075-943 BC. Thanks, Gabe, these made my weekend. My episode of Hoarders is going to be the best one ever! #ancientegypt #thingsilove #art #arthistory #mypassion #antiquities #unemployed #shutupadam

Comic con is the best. You meet new friends all day long. @shortbuttfunsize
It is Gabe’s birthday (Gabe is an antiquities expert) so we went full nerd. King Tut exhibit at the @californiasciencecenter. I highly recommend seeing this when it comes to your town. 150 objects from the most important archeological find of the 20th century and THE most important Egyptian find ever. It’s $30 and well worth it. Much cheaper than going to Egypt. These pieces really are spectacular and some have never left their native country. See how clean I’m keeping this post? That is Gabe’s son, Niko. He’ll be 12 in a couple months.#kingtut #kingtutexhibit #antiquities #nerdystuff #fullnerd #latrafficsucks Happy birthday, Gabe! @ancientresource

“I’m dope and I do dope shit.” -Kanye West, I think. The @gettymuseum is rad and it’s FREE! This place truly is a gift to the residents and visitors of LA. Go there. The only cost is $15 to park. The art is spectacular and the views and campus are stellar. Lunch with fiends? Cheap, but romantic date? Killing time with family or guests? Time out by yourself? All that and you get to ride a tram! Right now until Sept 9th, there is an exhibit that examines the impact of Egyptian art on Ancient Greece and Rome. It’s like an art mashup. This bust is the Roman Emperor Hadrian’s lover, Antinous. He drowned in the Nile around 130AD and Hadrian chose this Roman/Egyptian mashup to memorialize him. I swear I’m not a virgin. #cheapdate #familyfun #losangeles #museum #ancientegypt #getoutthere #gettymuseum #solotravel also #loveislove

They don’t all gotta be masterpieces, Jan. Hello. Welcome to my Sunday things that I love post. Today, I want to talk about affordable collecting. The # 1 question I get is why do I look so young. It’s genetics. The # 2 question is how much does art actually cost. Thats probably like the number 12 question but that would have wrecked my joke. Anyway, affordable collecting. There is an idea that things like art, travel…are beyond the reach of most. That’s not true. I don’t like to spend a ton of dough on ANYTHING but I HAVE to collect art so what do I do? I hate going into galleries. The people are usually dicks and the prices are ridiculous, SO I buy most of my pieces at auction. At first I only knew the big three houses: Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Bonhams. I still look at every catalogue they put out, but their name on something means you’re going to pay more so I’ve branched out. The past few years I’ve been buying increasingly at small regional houses around the world, and I do it mostly online. Today, I’ve chosen these two drawings to show the kind of deals you can get when you look around. The first piece is an early 17th century Italian study of a man. Red chalk on paper. I bought it at a small auction house, Tajan, in Paris for $280 including shipping. That’s right. Under $300 and it’s not tiny. It’s 11”x14”. It’s probably a study by a young artist who was apprenticed to a master. It’s a beauty and it’s 400 YEARS OLD! The second piece is a drawing by neo-impressionist master Maximillien Luce, circa 1880s. It’s 5”x6” and cost $150 from a small auction house, Hutter, in NYC. And when I went to get it, they put it in a tote bag that I now use to carry groceries. $150! This guy’s paintings can go for a hundred grand , but there is merit and value in a drawing. AND it used to be owned by Vincent Price! The golden age horror movie icon? The narrator in Thriller. Better? Jesus, these kids with their music. Provenance (who used to own sometning) is a big deal and can greatly impact the value of a piece of art. Plus it’s fun. Their price brought them to my attention. I bought them because I loved them. They are now a part of my history and I theirs.
“Hey babes, can you help me get this head into that bag? Thanks” Hello and welcome to my Sunday things that I love post. Today, I’ve chosen Judith with the head of Holofernes, oil on wood panel, Antwerp School, circa 1550. I chose this painting to talk about my love of old master works. Growing up a bookish child in the rural south, one of the fastest ways to get your ass kicked was to admit that you liked books about Greek myths. (I also liked scary bible stories. The ones about hell and disasters;Sodom and Gomorrah and judgment day). I used to check out this giant book from my school library detailing these myths and the illustrations were 400 year old paintings. The moody photo realism and the barbarity so exquisitely rendered, hooked me and followed me into adulthood. When I decided to seriously collect art, this is where I headed. Before I started to learn about old master paintings (that’s just the term used for paintings pre 19th century) I assumed they cost millions of dollars and I could never afford one. Well, a lot of them DO cost millions of dollars, but many, many more do not and you can acquire one or two of them a year for what you used to spend on cigarettes. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I’m going to use a gorgeous little Martyrdom of St. Ursula painting I picked up for very little dough to talk about affordable collecting, but I’m going to do that at a later date. This mid 16th century beauty tells the Bible story of Judith and Holofernes. Holofernes was an Assyrian General sent by King Nebuchadnezzar to take over this Jewish village. His soldiers stormed the village and then camped outside, blocking food and supplies. You can see this in the upper right. There are heads on spikes and cracks in the castle. You can see it better in the second image. Old master paintings are hard to photograph because of the varnish. This went on for so long, the village men gave up hope. Enter Judith. Judith was a hot widow. She got wind that Holofernes was into her so she and her maid went down to his camp, got him drunk and cut his fucking head off! Seeing the head, the men regained courage and drove out the Assyrians! #artcollector #arthistory #thingsilove
My dad at a lake in Tennessee talking to me in Spokane Washington. Love you, dad. Sorry I can’t be there with you today. Good to hear you so happy and healthy. #happyfathersday.
