So proud to have worked w/ all these QUEENS this year. Drag is art, and so glad to see all these queer, gender-bending creative performers see success in what they do.

Years and years ago, when I was less comfortable being gay than I probably wished to admit, I could not watch a drag queen perform. When visiting Spain with friends we were dragged into a club with queens on stage, and I left. I always felt like people outside of the queer world viewed gay men as sissies, as wanting to be women, as not being “man” enough. Being associated with drag freaked me out.

Now I fucken love me a queen! They are mesmerizing beings. And they’ve even helped me feel comfortable being myself. It’s funny how a bit of openness, self-respect, and respect for others can turn a fear into an admiration. Now I could care less if someone associates myself, or Strange Ways, with drag. In fact, we celebrate it!
