Kyle Hanagami Instagram – Okay. This is a big deal to me and a huge thank you to @billboard for the articles! When I started choreographing, I couldn’t understand why there were so many issues with music copyright and why choreographers weren’t getting paid royalties on their choreography for music videos, tours, tv shows or even YouTube videos. And when I would ask why, the answer I would get was, “it’s just always been that way.” Think about how often we’ve accepted things just because “they’ve always been that way”. It’s infuriating, isn’t it? My goal the past few years has been to work closely with major record labels to help them realize that dancers and choreographers have a lot of influence in pop culture and I’ve been working with Simon Fuller to set a precedent for royalties and ownership of choreography. A huge thank you to all the labels for working with us and helping us fight the good fight and to Simon for being a forward thinker. Let’s make history. 😍 Los Angeles, California
