Here’s a throwback for all the #nilanilaodivaa fans! This was the first look test/test shoot we did before starting shoot officially. @nandhini_js and I tried to see what sort of tats #Om would wear. She felt the Owl would be his spirit animal and I felt like the one superpower he would want to have is to fly ( be careful what you wish for Om) and so he would have tattoos of wings. We also put some Maori work on the arms. We realized some of the tattoos were detailed ,taking too much time and smudging due to the heat,so we ended up with the final design. #throwbackthursday #actorslife #NNOV #temporarytattoo @viutamil

Working on a project and getting to shoot in a spinning mill in pondicherry. Pretty amazing property with a lot of history! Mr.Sivaji Ganesan and Mrs. Vyjayanthimala shot the 1960 film ‘Irumbuthirai’ here. Rest in peace Peter Mayhew. Chewbacca was the loyal best friend who made sure no one messed with you and growing up I think we all wanted a friend like him. I loved the way he captured all the snarls, growls and head turns like an animal would. He made a shaggy fur suit that could have gone wrong into a character with a lot of soul. So much so that when I saw the character at disneyland last year I immediately reached out for his trademark hug and felt like a kid again. Here’s a fun blast from the past! Way back in 2004, my friends and I tried to make a pilot/ feature film of sorts and did auditions for that. This was the casting call/audition poster. We designed the poster to look like it was the scribbling of a bored school kid on his lab notebook(since the story was about 3 friends in their 12th standard) I illustrated it using the images as a reference and we stuck this poster all around town, in Cafe coffee days and landmark and Odyssey etc. I’m not sure if it was loud enough to grab people’s attention,but the simplicity and quirk of the design is what I’m most proud of. We got far enough to cast the characters and shoot a few days. It was a big task to get students to come over the weekend to shoot, and to set the story in such a big space, like a school (seriously shout out to those students who showed up to support us) We later realized that by doing this, we didn’t have the money to see the shooting through..🙄 We failed big, but the lesson learned was to start small.😌

I captured this while in the backseat of a drive from Bangalore to Chennai at one of the toll booths. It’s one of those sad truths of the world we live in, in a time where there are rapes and shootings and all sorts of abuse. Where this little boy has to sell these bags so he can have a meal. It’s a common sight at traffic signals but we try very hard to look away, to not meet their gaze or hear their voice either because we are numb to it or that we don’t want to face the harsh truth of life’s imbalances. I’m not sure what the takeaway of this is,but I just thought the sight of this boy trying hard to sell this bag and then close the deal,collect his money and walk away was something worth posting. Hopefully it will make you pause and think. Good night.
