Ten years ago, much to my surprise, I found myself on a list of Hello! Canada’s 50 Most Beautiful Canadians. But remaking myself has been a process of shedding: ideas of who I am, unnecessary opinions and beliefs imposed from the outside. I don’t want to be judged merely by how I look. It’s something I’ve struggled with my whole life, even while I pursued different creative tracks that didn’t involve my appearance. Feeling whole in myself and embodying my values has been the on going journey. Sure, we enjoy validation but when we see who we really are, our limitless potential, transcending labels comes naturally, even if the world doesn’t keep up.
Thoroughly humbled and overwhelmed to behold the first copy of @closetothebone.book which launches officially across India on Monday, May 20th.
I give thanks to all the souls who have supported me in this journey – you know who you are and I cherish each of you. Thank you readers for continuing to read and for what you will read. Your support in dispelling the myth that books don’t matter, that words and stories must be condensed and cinched to remain consumable is essential. There is room for story-telling in whatever form it manifests, though the book universe will always beckon to those with a taste for enquiry, adventure, empathy and transformation. I sincerely hope you will read and share your impressions of #ClosetotheBone

Repost from @parveenhq using @RepostRegramApp – I have cherished reading your book @lisaraniray – I felt as if I was holding your hand through the whole journey – the joy, the laughter, the adventure, the turmoil, the self-doubt, the love and pain. #CloseToTheBone is written so well. It’s real, authentic and deeply human. And Lisa you write so so well. I smiled at your beautiful prose and sentences – wish I had underlined the sentences that I loved, the ones that made me stop and re-read them because they were original, evocative and beautiful. The whole book is deeply moving and human. I didn’t want the book end, I really didn’t. You MUST continue to write Lisa, there are more stories for you to tell of that I am sure. I salute you Lisa Rani and your spirit and all that you are ✨ Bravo, Lisa The Writer 🙌🏻🤩 #mustread #memoirs #harpercollinsindia
Even as I was filming my babies somehow found paint, paper and ink to make my first ever Mother’s Day cards. Hmmmmm
From @elleindia interview on @closetothebone.book by @swapanseth67 :

I strongly maintain that my so called achievements are all a direct result of the role serendipity has played in my life- I have no ownership over them except to get out of my own way, which is a difficult thing to achieve, so that’s perhaps my greatest achievement. It’s to be open, to be observant, and to act when necessary. All the rest is really the great mistress serendipity. But I always trust she has a scintillating itinerary in mind for me.
