This is a few minutes after I threw the Ceremonial First Pitch for the Cincinnati Reds. My brother Keith caught for me. He was at MSG when I became the first Two Time Women of Honor World Champion. I grew up watching Keith wrestle when I was little. He taught me my first inside cradle when I was five. I also grew up attending games at Riverfront Stadium/Cinergy Field and then later at Great American Ball Park. I remember attending games with my grandpa, my dad, and my brother. Three generations of Kleins. To be invited to step on the field and throw out the first pitch with my friends, family, and fans all around me was incredible. Some of the best things about wrestling are the opportunities and experiences outside of the ring. I got a chance to meet some fans, including Mr. Redlegs. It is such an honor to represent my hometown. Even if I didn’t know exactly what my path would be, I have worked hard and am living an amazing journey for it. Guys. I love food. Like. It’s really really good. DID YOU KNOW that #veganfood and #vegetarianfood are actually also just #food ? I know. I’m being silly. But I say it because so many people make comments like it can’t be good or that it HAS to be tofu. 🤷🏻♀️ Lots of people have lots of different reasons for why they do or do not eat certain things. I follow as close to a vegan lifestyle as I feel that I can and I also avoid gluten as much as possible due to a sensitivity I discovered years ago. My reasons include health, moral, environmental, and economic. I don’t know everything. And I guarantee that even with the research and knowledge I have sought out, I make mistakes. But I do my best. I don’t think that everyone has to agree with me and I understand that they won’t. I recognize that different people have many different reasons why they can or can’t do certain things. But I think that any effort is good. If you think that there are good reasons to reduce animal products but you don’t think you can do it 24/7, whatever you do STILL makes some difference. My husband is not vegetarian. But he takes me to places like Pancho’s Vegan Tacos and he eats vegetarian or vegan meals with me. And he even likes them! 😮 So I’m not trying to tell you what to do. Or that what’s right for me is right for you. But please don’t give up on something just because someone makes you feel you can’t do it “enough”. Also, don’t miss out on bomb food because it’s labeled “vegan”. I remember when I was a little baby Kelly out in the world making friends. The question on every five year old’s mind was, “what’s your favorite color?” It was a great way to figure out if you could be best friends. Well, for me, that was a difficult question because I loved them all. At any given moment I might answer a different color. “Red…. and blue. Ummm and I really like green. And…. ummmm…. I don’t know!” Man, did I love colors. Still do. At certain times in my childhood, this seemed to be one of my biggest worries. I turned to the wisdom of my mother. I told her I couldn’t pick just one and I didn’t know how to answer when the topic of favorite colors came up (and it ALWAYS did). She told me it was ok. I didn’t have to choose just one. She said next time someone asked me my favorite color, I could answer, “all the colors of the rainbow.” And I did!! I never forgot that lesson. But it’s not just about colors. I learned that I didn’t have to limit myself in anything. That’s why it’s always been important to me to embrace and CELEBRATE all of the things that make me ME. I can appreciate and seek femininity, but also be tough and a badass. I can be immersed in athletics and also sing in the choir. I can enjoy making my friends laugh, but also care about fostering academics and intelligence. One of the biggest lies we ever learn is that any of those things are mutually exclusive. It takes a special kind of intelligence to be a great athlete or to craft a successful joke. It is absolutely feminine to be strong and tough and badass. All of these things make me who I am. If there is one thing that I do through my journey as a professional wrestler, I want people to hear this and understand it and believe it. Make the choices that make you happy and complete.
