In the end, after all else is stripped away, there is only love. My mom believed in love more than anyone. It was her guide, her solace, it’s what drove her, and in her final moments, it is what surrounded her. “i love you, you know that,” she would say to me, and i did, i knew it from the moment i was born, and i will know it till the moment i die. It was her greatest gift to me.

31 years ago today, my brother, Carter Cooper, died by suicide. It is still hard to imagine, hard to comprehend. Not a day goes by when i do not think of him and miss him terribly. Jan 27, 1965- July 22, 1988.

Thanks for all the kind birthday wishes! To make myself feel especially old, I dredged up some old photos. One is a photo booth picture that I used for my first press pass. Another is me videotaping at a wedding in Vietnam in 1991, when I was going to school there. The last photo is by #dianearbus, who stayed at our house taking pictures of me and my brother for a project she was working on (i know, i know, @bravoandy, very relatable.)
