Very proud moment for the Ray-Dehni clan as #Soufflé gets their OCI cards to become official citizens of India. We are not a jingoistic family but India is the land that has nurtured me, watered me, and where we as a family, have deep roots and strong emotional connections. We identify as earth citizens, who have lived and worked all over this beautiful blue marble, but belonging to India – Ma Bharat, whatever you want to call it- is fundamental to our sense of home and identity.

‘Every time someone asks me a question- How are you? – I want to answer with a haiku:
.
Barn burn down
Now I see the moon
.
…You don’t always have to talk about how I’m feeling. I want to know that life is continuing around me. How are you doing? Remember that, even in the face of your own fear. Sometimes it’s just presence we crave. Sometimes words just don’t do it, and what we need is to be around people who support us. Sometimes that is enough. You are enough. The essence of being a warrior is this- the refusal to give up on anything or anyone.’
– excerpt from #ClosetotheBone @closetothebone.book
‘That’s the trouble with people, their root problem. Life runs alongside them, unseen. Right here, right next. Creating the soil. Cycling water. Trading in nutrients. Making weather. Building atmosphere. Feeding and curing and sheltering more kinds of creatures than people know how to count.
A chorus of living things sings to the woman: If your mind were only a slightly greener thing, we’d drown you in meaning.’

Repost from @wholyblog using @RepostRegramApp – There are woman I bow to. Lisa Rani Ray is def one of them 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The Canadian actress (starring in the deeply troubling Oscar nominated film “Water” by Deepa Mehta), television host, philantropist and social activist, just launched her biography: “Close to the bone” (Harper Collins India). And what a life it was until now. I got ‘introduced’ to Lisa when I started following her courageous blog “The Yellow Diaries”, chronicling her cancer journey with brutal openness, strength, poetry and wisdom.
The daughter of a Polish mother (who had just died shortly before Lisa was diagnosed with the uncurable illness) and a Bengali father, lives in remission now thanks to a stem cell transplant and a conscious lifestyle consisting of a healthy diet, meditation and yoga. But the grave disease Multiple Myeloma, a rare cancer of the white blood cells, did not stop her to start living the life she always had dreamt of. Since her diagnosis, she has found the love of her life, got married, she helped raise funds for the establishment of the first research chair in Toronto for the rare disease and she became even a advocat for stem cell technology. Last year she and her husband became parents of twin daughters Soleil and Sufi via surrogacy. And now there’s her already acclaimed book out. How many lives does she live in one? This woman is a force of nature and has inspired me intensly and ongoing for the last 10 years. Thank you Lisa Rani Ray ❤🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

‘Olivia freezes. The creatures of light that ambushed her out in the car swarm her again, saying, this, this, this. But the instant she knows she must pay strict attention, the segment ends and another begins. She stands, staring at a debate over whether flame throwers are protected by the Second Amendment. The light beings vanish. Revelation collapses into consumer electronics.’

Repost from @payalsinghal using @RepostRegramApp – #PS20: This year we celebrate 20 years of ‘Payal Singhal’
Along the way, there have been some defining moments which I would love to share with you all.
Dressing the Millennial Indian Bride since 1999! This outfit was made for Gayatri Joshi @gayatrioberoi for the Miss India Pageant where the segment theme was ‘Millennial Brides’. Since modernising Indian bridal wear has been at the heart of the label since its launch, this piece was one we enjoyed creating. We skipped conventional bridal colours and silhouettes with this all-white hand embroidered set that featured a crop top and a slip-on pedal-pushers-cum-sheer lehenga minus the dupatta. Seen here on the lovely @lisaraniray

The Persistent Memory of Stones
Petroglyphs in Ladakh
After photographing ancient rock art in Ladakh I came upon this painting by Nicholas Roerich at the Roerich Museum in New York City “On an eroded shelf a hundred metres above the Zanskar River in Ladakh stands a snow leopard, profiled against the bronzed patina of a polished boulder. The stylized form of its body is instantly recognizable, as is the pattern of spots on its coat and the long tail that curves behind. Crouching, I study the ancient artistry of this figure that has remained unchanged for thousands of years, a timeless image baked by the sun and buffed by wind. Harsh winters and the fast-flowing streams and rivers of Ladakh have scarred the mountains all around us, but the snow leopard (Panthera uncia) remains unscathed. He watches me with a stony demeanour, alert to danger yet equally attentive to the presence of prey.” From WILD HIMALAYA by my friend Stephen Alter

📚
So I read this amazing book by @lisaraniray . With this book, I got to know that Lisa Ray is so much more than an actress. She is a fighter. And she has many many stories to tell.
📚
I was really inspired by how she fought against the tough ups and downs of her life, especially when she survived Cancer. It was difficult to put it down. So emotional, so inspiring! Lisa has always been one of my favorites. After reading her book, I like her even more.
📚
She is a living example that a person who is super successful and popular could be facing so many inner struggles with their identity, health, relationships; and still showing up every day. That requires some serious mental strength!
📚
I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. You won’t regret it.
📚
A big thanks to @harpercollinsin for sending me this book in exchange of an honest review.

Reading about our fresh water crisis hopefully leads to action. Any conscious person in the world today, cannot avoid putting themselves behind a solution, and as we all know, it’s the grassroots, everyday steps that we implement in our lives that pave the way. Here’s a simple one that I’m starting with. I believe these are available on @thebetterindiashop and you can search online for one that suits your conscience as well. Repost from @zerowaste_india using @RepostRegramApp – Say hello to the ‘Water Aerator.’😍😍
.
My first substantial step to reducing water wastage in my home. This tiny device easily gets fitted into existing taps and ends up reducing 80% water wastage, without reducing the force of the water output.
💧
I bought two of these for ₹250 and fitted them myself in the two taps accessed for 1. Washing utensils and 2. Getting water for floor cleaning and washing mops or periodically, washing clothes.
🚿
I felt guilty sharing water crisis stories on social media without taking any substantial steps myself. The heart is a bit at ease now.
💚
This is my lil contribution to @fitgirl.india’s #cleanyourenvironmentchallenge

Buy these lil babies to save crazy amounts of water everyday. A simple search online will throw up many brands selling these. Go ahead and choose one you like.
