The World says : train tougher, workout harder, go to your edge whereas Experience says : the opposite is true. Training smarter in my 40s means accessing a softness, a meditative mindset and then using breath to dance a bit with gravity and resistance. It’s fun, anti-obsessive and I emerge energized not drained. Mind you, I’m full of the wind dosha so I have to be mindful of grounding myself, and use slow, deliberate movements to tame that Vata!

This picture was taken somewhere on the Indian highway where two elephants reach out to each other in a brief moment of love and bonding before being separated from each other for a lifetime of serving man. It’s well known that elephants value their family structure, perhaps more so than many other animals so when they get separated like this they feel immense sadness and pain. And despite scientists finding that elephants are capable of complex thought and deep feeling, they are being killed at an unprecedented rate (by some estimates up to 100 elephants are killed per day) or to be sold as slave labor to be used hauling logs in forest operations or in entertaining and giving rides to tourists. Those unable to work are killed for their meat, body parts and ivory as roughly 90% of African elephants have been killed in the past century and the number of Asian elephants has declined by at least 50% in the last three generations alone. We MUST put an end to this beautiful species’ suffering so please share this post with your followers and tag people, especially unaware celebrities, who need to see it in the comments below! By spreading massive awareness about this sad situation, we can turn things around and come up with potential solutions to save the elephants before it’s too late as at the current rate, they are set to become extinct in the next decade or so if nothing is done!

Repost from @verveindia using @RepostRegramApp – “When I was young, I thought I had to hide my sensitivity and vulnerability. I thought those feelings were a weakness and I didn’t have the guts to ask for space and a break when I needed them – when I was feeling overwhelmed from being around people, from being poked and prodded at and having my clothes adjusted during a shoot. I couldn’t self-regulate my emotions, so I would just explode from time to time and disappear for days on end. I once didn’t leave my home in Mumbai for four months.” A symbol of resilience who took the challenges that life threw at her in her stride, @lisaraniray gets candid in a conversation with one-time neighbour #JoannePereira as they talk about her early success as a teenager, her feisty fight with cancer, her achieving motherhood through surrogacy, and reinventing herself. It’s a precious experience to find oneself in a roomful of likeminded Bibliophiles and engage in meaningful, uplifting, humour-laced discussion. That too on the day of a big cricket match, which touchingly, did not deter this group of word-lovers. Thanks @ekcupcoffee @broke.bibliophile #SanskaariGirlsBookClub and

This starling – karuna of course means ‘compassion’ – always says what needs to be said. Click on the link in her bio to add your voice to the movement. Repost from @karunaezara using @RepostRegramApp – For my 2000th post, here’s something important:
• Clean water across the world is running out.
• Our water comes from rivers, lakes, ice, soil, snow and groundwater. This last one which made up 30% of the planet’s water, is contained in aquifers. In 2015 @NASA satellite images showed that of the 37 aquifers on Earth, 21 have declined.
• Since the year 2000 already, people have been warring against the privatisation of water across the world. India too has come under pressure from the World Bank to do the same and sell ours. Eventually private companies will control most of the world’s water, and we will all be paying through our teeth for the last few drops of it.
• Of course it is the poor who will suffer most, like in Chennai right now, which is why most of us on this platform dont care enough. But eventually, all of us will have to face the crisis.
• More than 800 million people on Earth lack access to clean water. That’s already 1 in 9 humans.
• What officials like to call “drought” is in fact a #WaterCrisis.
• Why can’t we use all that seawater? Desalination (removing salt from seawater) is extremely expensive and not very energy efficient.
• So what do we do to fix it now? Let me tell you a story. In Nizamuddin East, Delhi, the residents came together recently, and with 2 Lakh rupees total, decided to set up their own water harvesting system in order to filter and replenish groundwater levels. Guess what? It’s working. Where our governments are failing us, it’s time to take action. If your area, colony or building has a society, secretary or welfare association, now is the time to call a meeting, get involved and begin work. We no longer have the luxury of avoiding public participation.
• Sign the petition in my bio – it’s time @mygovindia and @narendramodi declared a Climate Emergency. Better now than later. Better now than when it’s too late. 💙🌎🙏🏽

Repost from @amitavawriter using @RepostRegramApp – A young woman wrote to me to say she was turning 25. I didn’t know her but she had gone to India, when she was 22, to work in a women’s prison near Mumbai. She was asking 26 artists or writers whose work had been meaningful to her to contribute a journal entry for a day in July. We were to reflect on what it had been like at 25. Here’s what I sent her. @macdowellcolony
