Repost from @officialhumansofbombay “I was born in terror ridden Kashmir — when I was only a month old, we had to leave everything overnight and move to Jammu.Things were getting dangerous by the minute, and we didn’t have much of a choice. My parents were worried for our safety. We hoped to come back once the dust settled, but that never happened.
Life in Jammu was far from easy though — we had left behind everything that we owned and had to start from scratch. My little brother and I because of the horrible conditions in Jammu contracted typhoid, as toddlers. But as a family, we persevered — because at the end of the day, we had each other.
Slowly things got better, and we got tougher… because we had no other choice. My father, after a long struggle, and because he wanted to give us a better standard of life, decided that we should move to Delhi. After that there was no looking back….
We moved from city to city — collected a bunch of different experiences and grew fearless as a family. It took a lot for my parents to leave Kashmir behind — it was still the one place they called ‘home’; a place where they grew up. But despite everything, they made sure nothing stopped me from living the life I wanted!
Today, I’ve stayed in multiple cities, travelled to Australia to pursue my passion and even made a career out of it! I wouldn’t say that my life was the stereotypical ‘struggle’, a lot of things worked in my favour and a lot of great opportunities came my way — there were times I was simply lucky.
But of course, like any other person, the life I’ve chosen for myself brings its own set of uncertainties and the situations I’ve faced, carry their own baggage. But all of it has taught me to go with the flow; to accept the fact that life is unpredictable, and to cherish the small moments.
I’ve learnt to embrace that change and not take anything that goes wrong too seriously. Because honestly, if you have a family who loves you, a roof over your head and a warm meal to share — you’re luckier than you think!”
