Soaked in the sun and all of #Nature’s abundance at #Kabini #Karnataka. It was one the most beautiful life experiences… the river #Kapila with #NagarholeNationalPark and #BandipurNationalPark on either side of her banks meeting the river #Cauvery… our forests are the birthing grounds for rivers, sequesters of carbon, ecological infrastructures that have existed for millions of years that secure our lives. Our trips into the wild always leave me energised. Filled with love, grace and purpose to do MORE to protect all that is wild and all that facilitates life itself. My mother saw her first wild tiger on this trip. And I realised while I watched her react to the wilderness where I have inherited my spirit of curiosity and empathy. Mamma, I hope the future generations will be able to witness the wonder and glory of wildlife and learn to love and protect it.

This #Tiger did not have a Billion choices. But our rescue team working relentlessly, selflessly, risking their lives each day to ensure they give #WildlIfe safe passage back to the wild ensure they have a choice. “Flood waters bring in the most unlikely guests. This time it was a tiger at a house in Harmouti in the Kohora range, relaxing on a bed. The IFAW-WTI- Assam Forest Department teams initially considered tranquilising the tiger but finally decided to give it a safe passage without much intervention.
The tiger was spotted next to the highway at 8:30 am, moving from the park, just 200 m away, most probably on its way to higher reaches in the Karbi hills about 500 m across the National highway. Probably disturbed, he jumped across the wall of a scrap garage and took refuge in the dark room of a house. There is a roadside eating joint located across the house and the highway divides this stretch. It has to traverse this stretch of the road and eating joint to reach the forested hills behind.
The team waited patiently for sundown to give it a safe passage out of the house. The AssamForest Department is working round the clock with NGOs #IFAW- #WTI to ensure the safety of humans and animals in the wake of floods and receding waters that is throwing such unprecedented challenges each day.” This situation is also a strong statement on highways and settlements blocking the animals’ #RightOfPassage!

Yesterday, Secretary-General @antonioguterres met with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Advocates Ahead of the General Assembly. The group agreed that while the SDGs are being adopted by governments, business and civil society, we are still dramatically behind where we need to be to achieve the Goals by 2030. The world needs to make a significant leap to succeed on the SDGs to reduce the suffering of people everywhere, including through the fight against climate change.
The Secretary-General asked the Advocates to put urgency, scale, speed, emotion, and the dignity of people behind their efforts to drive action on the SDGs and to identify opportunities to achieve tipping points to change the trajectory on each of the Goals.
The SDG Advocates committed to driving action on the SDGs, and to playing a key role in the Decade of Action to deliver the SDGs.
