Great event. Deep laughter. Truth speaking.
And Iām repeating my same @vaishalisstudio outfit, styled differently. I feel compelled to practise sustainability in my choices, rather than always feed the narrative that pressures us to buy.
Do you repurpose and repeat outfits? I do all the time in everyday life. So why not in my professional life? I bought a lot of #Souffleās infant chic clothes from @retykle in Hong Kong and pass on their wardrobe to other cutie patooies when itās been outgrown.

Contemplative moment between shots? Or musing about where @beneaththesheetz hid the crisps? Who knows what works on camera?

In 2014, two years after relapsing and five years after first getting diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, I shot for the #BeautyGivesBackCampaign in Toronto, a charitable initiative of the Canadian beauty industry, dedicated to helping women beat the Cancer Blues.
The campaign is an off shoot of the Look Good Feel Better foundation, Canadaās only charitable cancer program dedicated to empowering women to manage the effects that cancer and its treatment can have on their appearance. At the heart of Look Good Feel Better is the free, 2 hour hands-on workshop offered at 120 cancer care facilities and hospitals across the country. Since its inception, it is estimated that Look Good Feel Better has helped hundreds of thousands of women across the country. I was one of those women. Iāll never forget that afternoon of camaraderie and overcoming my vulnerability as I tried on different headgear and learned about the best moisturizers and foundation for chemo ravaged skin in a room full of women who were experiencing similar levels of anxiety about our morphing appearance. To shoot for this campaign a few years later, my port prominently displayed, was an honour.
What is the Cancer Blues? Itās a term for the emotional distress caused by cancer and its treatment. The Cancer Blues is a huge and overlooked part of the cancer story. For the majority of women, a cancer diagnosis unleashes as many emotional symptoms as physical ones.

Iām thinking about the cycles that regulate our lives. We rise, we celebrate, we build our palaces and secret gardens and then we dissolve into the elements, our original and only home while our castles, our self-importance, our cities and beliefs disintegrate back into nothingness. .

Delhi #WHSmith T3 either you are coercing readers into buying #ClosetotheBone or giddy long distance travellers are currently looking for black and white book covers of middle aged women with pages enough to sustain long haul flights šš¼ either way Iām grateful and a bit giddy myself from this image shared with me.

Repost from @closetothebone.book using @RepostRegramApp – The pursuit of the perfect editorial image was taken very seriously in the 90s. We believed we were pushing boundaries and creating new visual vocabularies in India. And in service of that, many uncomfortable hours were spent soaking in bath-tubs or climbing trees; but cheerfully, without complaint and without intervention by managers. Hereās a BTS image from a shoot for @elleindia

Repost from @imagesof_light using @RepostRegramApp – Already has my heart! As I flip through page after page of āClose to the boneā by @lisaraniray I canāt help but experience the thrill, dismay, excitement and terror that each page brings with it. Itās been a while since a book got me so smitten and more importantly let me savour relatable feelings. Lisaās fluid writing thatās so honest is keeping me not just hooked but also drawing up vivid detail of my own childhood lane by lane, scents, smells, alleys, attics and all. I have a feeling this one is going to keep me up a few nights and take me along a special ride, canāt wait! Thank you so much @karunaezara for bringing this to me! šø #closetothebone #Saturdaymorningreading @lisaraniray #heartfelt #hasmyheartalready @kritzphoenix
This middle aged woman rendered in black and white on this cover is not remarkable in and of herself but her stories seem to have captured readersā attention. And this image is too gorgeous not to share.
In all seriousness I am rendered speechless on a daily basis by readers sharing their #ClosetotheBone experiences.

Repost from @earthlingfirst using @RepostRegramApp – Ganpati Visarjan is one of the biggest celebrations in India. According to Hindu traditions devotees create clay idols and then immerse them in water to denote the birth Cycle of Ganesha/Ganpati who was created from Clay/Earth. š
Ganpati Visarjan in its own way talks about nature’s life cycle and while it should be one of the most Eco friendly events in India, it has become something else all together. Clay Handmade Idols are replaced with POP and Plastic. Natural brown colour of clay is replaced by toxic paints to make it more shiny. And all this is immersed in water without thinking about its consequences.
š
This Ganpati Visarjan, take this as an opportunity to understand the meaning of a birth cycle, go minimal, natural and sustainable. š

Repost from @soares_diandra using @RepostRegramApp – @lisaraniray just like your gypsy life… your book travelled with me to Phuket for my 40th birthday to Mulshi for a yoga retreat to Lonavala to my film location set …..!!!! Just like you I stumbled into this industry at the very young age of 15….. I didn’t know anything about this industry at all. But as an artist all my life…. I remember at 12 or 13 being totally mesmerized by your beauty & painting your evita soap ad. In a black swimsuit with water dripping of you…. I even won the contest for that painting of you.
Then… I entered the modeling world…
I remember few years later hearing the rumors about you & your life.
:
I am so glad I picked you to read…. I cannot begin to tell you what your book & these words have done for me. It resonates because I am a big girl & I can understand that pressure there is. Within. That constant battle. I’ve seen it around me n within too.
I could go on… and on… about that and more related to our biz.
But, coming back to YOU…. everything has been so intense & inspiring. Thank you for laying it all out , being raw , being vulnerable & authentic and brutally honest. Its incredibly endearing….. and today more than ever before you are even more beautiful than you have ever ever been in my eyes…… The strength….. the positivity…. the bravery……. it all comes through. What a crazy beautiful journey…..!!!!! And such beautiful words & knowledge to pen it down wonderfully. :
I never easily fan girl……. today I am…… And I fan girl because we need more women like you.
It’s not your outter beauty or what you’ve achieved fame wise…. that I fan girl about… but I am a huge fan of that spirit….
You’ve inspired me. Your words have at times cut like a knife and at other’s made me burst out laughing and at times choke up & cry…. and breathe. I hope I see you soon someday.
Close to the bone. Just for aš¤
Fresh, witty, lovably eccentric read? Or has author #OliviaLaing just live streamed the contents of my mind?
Either way, what an original, sharply written read.
