Lorenzo Quinns giant hands sculpture emerging from a Venice Canal. It seems clear we need loud and consistent reminders of our climate change crisis and so here’s another.
Repost from @herstoryjewels using @RepostRegramApp – Lisa Ray’s Close to The Bone delves into the unstoppable force of love which takes many forms: protection, fury, tenderness, boldness, and intimacy; each experience inviting deeper knowing of the very human experience of being broken, misunderstood and vulnerable.

My baba. We did not wake up at 4 am to listen to the recital of Mahisasura Mardini by Birendra Krishna Bhadra on Mahalaya, but sat together that afternoon in Singapore, Sufi and Soleil taking turns to listen and then wrestle at our feet. Baba patiently explained the Durga mythology from both a colloquial and Vedic perspective. Then, Goddess Durga and her children having began their ascent from Kailasha to the lowlands, Baba leaned back, closed his eyes and felt the reverberation of the conch, signalling our soulful solidarity with all that is.
Never will you need a man with a more harmonious play between Shakti and Shiva – the divine feminine and masculine energies – of Chaitanya, Bhakti and seva, than my baba, Salil Kumar Ray.

As far back as I can remember I have aspired to the writerly life. I’ve surrounded myself with authors, scribblers, poets, archivists and dreamers. I derived a particular thrill one year, by presenting at the #GillerAwards a Canadian literary award, pictured here with nominee, the prolific and award-winning writer (though he did not win that year) David Bezmozgis. Those who really know me are not surprised by the fact of publishing my first book at 47, and will expect more. I give myself permission to be free of roles, but I won’t begrudge quizzical expressions by my next announcement 😝🤟🏼

Shubho Mahalaya from #Singapura 🙏🏼 Yes, I need to point out this is the Sri Mariamman Temple built in the Dravidian style – most decidedly not a Bengali Hindu temple- but when we peeked inside there was an Aarti in progress and Durga was seated in a stately position above the main entrance.
The version of Hinduism I’ve imbibed is replete with a cavalcade of deities and mythologies but permeated with a non dualistic vision and Vedantic ‘oneness’ of our universe. I see Durga and the essence of the goddess everywhere, because the whole never loses contact with its parts 💫 Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore
“I went looking for beauty and romance and glad to put a great ocean between me and the trouble that harassed me. I found beauty and romance, but I found also something I had never expected. I found a new self.”

Bapuji. So poignant in his simplicity.
Happy Gandhi Jayanti. Lest we forget the sacrifices made.

On Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, a tribute through art.
@santatiexhibition is an experience at levels sensory and subtle. Only a mind like @lavinabaldota could have imagined this vast canvas that brings to life the legacy, life and legend of Mahatma Gandhi. She precisely and starkly showcases how relevant his philosophy remains 150 years later.
Santati emerges from the deepest core of @lavinabaldota whose imagination soars on the wings of poetry that is yet to be written. And I cannot be thankful enough for being a part.
An ode to vision, visionaries and belief, this exposition will take you just that slight bit over the fence of art, design, words, work. It might flip a tiny switch.
Do please make an effort to see @santatiexhibition which will remain open at the NGMA, Mumbai till November 15.

Last night at #WritersBar in the newly refurbished @raffleshotelsingapore, an unexpected discovery; my friend who happens to be one of the foremost travel writers in the world, Pico Iyer, is the first writer in residence of @raffleshotelsingapore and has authored this delight – The Could Be Home – on Singapore and the iconic hotel, which is a glowing, elegant monument to the writerly tradition of Southeast Asia. Delight begets delight. Killer 🍸 too
