The beauty of handtouched, handmade, handwoven is that someone somewhere with their bare hands produce each ounce of a fabric and leave an essence of them in it. I feel that every time I adorn a handwoven garment. An embrace of warmth of the hands that has woven it with so much love. His entire life has been his message. The words he spoke, the actions he preached, the movements he started and symbolized are all relevant today more than ever as we celebrate his 150th birth anniversary. What he said a hundred years ago echoes in many spheres and aspects of life. Every time I read his words, I find resonance to my state of mind and deeper meanings to life and my work.
A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history. ~

Last year’s flood in Kerala devastated many khadi institutions and its weavers, and spinners. Over 1000 people directly connected to the Gandhian way of life and practice lost their livelihoods.
SaveTheLoom.org @savetheloom_org led its revival and ensured every charkha and loom is up and running in less than four months. A curated project Colors of Resilience was a tribute by 25 leading fashion designers using khadi from Kerala interpreting their individual imprint with the handspun, handwoven humble kora fabric. Much talked about and celebrated, I take great pride in wearing these outfits that reflects the essence of Gandhi’s Khadi and the human spirit that fought the adversity.

150th Birth Anniversary
It’s always intrigued me and somewhere when I grew up I gave my own logic to it. Travel to every city and town of India and inevitably you find a central road named MG Road . Most prominent cities in the world have a road or statue to honour him and his legacy. Mahatama Gandhi and his exemplary life are the greatest teachings for mankind , and I aspire to be a humble follower. His words find resonance whenever I look inward for inspiration or to fight my own battles with myself.
On his 150th birth anniversary, I reaffirm my beliefs, and would love to tread on his teachings as I aspire to be a better human being, and achieve the goals I set for myself.
