One week ago… I have to pinch myself sometimes because I’m so fortunate to be a part of this show, to play Ralph, and to go to work with this group. Can’t believe I’ve been at two comic cons with this crew, almost two years exactly since I first auditioned for Ralph. I often forget to stop and take stock – always running around between work and my dogs, my relationship and volunteering whenever I can and trying to sleep or have a life. Thank you to everyone who is a part – especially the fans – of this wonderful ride. Work smart and always make sure you give back. Big, small, I love them all. I dream of the day when shelters are empty because we have actually tackled this problem with spay/neuter, community outreach and demanding responsible dog “ownership” (combined with assistance for good folks who need help – you don’t have to have a lot of money to be a wonderful dog/cat parent). Millions of dogs are euthanized in the USA every year. All of LA city’s six shelters are overflowing. They cannot all be saved. They just keep coming in. Animals are doubled up, in temporary kennels for days, staff cannot remotely keep up, volunteers and staff are beyond burned out – and the numbers just keep going up. There are solutions – but we need action. When will we address the root causes of the issue? When will we fix this, @mayorofla ? Whenever we can, we get together and get dogs out at the overflowing South LA Animal shelter and work on their leash skills to make them more adoptable (Shadow and sweet Rosie pictured here). Some dogs have gone from almost completely unable to be handled on leash to model doggie students – able to be handled by even novice volunteers. It is rewarding as hell, but hard on the heart. Our city shelters are overrun. It never ends. They don’t all make it out. But tomorrow, we will go in and serve again. About last week… reposting this as a reminder to all of us – we often show up to an event, or a holiday comes and we give our time or money. This is great – but we can’t forget that there are so many out there trying to handle things like this Every. Single. Day. – and we can help every week or every day, too! There are countless folks out there being of service 20x more than I am, and I always try to keep in mind that it’s about that day in and day out work that really makes an impact. How will you try to improve the world around you this week? And next week? Be of service, it will save you. And this sweet dog (ID below) is at South LA shelter. Let’s get a rescue to pull her! Very social with humans, we need to evaluate her more/give her a little time with dog to dog (she was understandably a little tense meeting other dogs this past weekend). On his way there he saw a dog weaving in and out of traffic, so he got some food and caught her. She has been scanned for a chip and does not have one nor has she been claimed. She is SUPER sweet with people and will be available for adoption tomorrow. Her ID # is A1908365. Please share her. Thank you and thank you @hartleysawyer for saving her!!
