Deaf people face disturbing, inappropriate discrimination everyday and everywhere we go. We are not second-class citizens.
TONIGHT with @johnquinones for @abcnetwork’s “What Would You Do?” we test if bystanders are willing to help prevent injustice among deaf people…. Will our faith be restored?…. see you tonight on ABC at 9/8c
And come back with your thoughts!!! #wwydabc #WWYD
Wow… I am humbled and honored to accept the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell award for my disability activism and as an actor. Thank you @mediaaccessawards and @eastersealssocal.
In my speech I talked about how society likes to question my hardship as a deaf/disabled person when I had a perfect life. My parents are deaf. My whole family is deaf. I’m the fourth generation. I went to deaf schools growing up. Able-bodied and hearing people like to think it is literally impossible for disabled people to be happy.
Why? Why do they think that?
The answer is… it is how TV/films portray us. Hollywood dictates a perception of minority groups.
We can solve this and create authentic stories by encouraging our industry to INCLUDE disabled actors, directors, writers, etc. into the story-making process.
This is where true inclusion happens.
P.S. Yep, I pulled a Madonna with two tuxedos for one single event 😛

Ben Genovese returns on #ThisClose Season 2!!! Tune in SundanceTV(.com) to watch.
P.S. I probably had 7 donuts while shooting this scene… but I strategically ate one bite or two every time 🙈
thank you in advance 🤟🏼🤟🏼
My character is a total loser 😂
Watch #ThisClose on @SundanceTV. The very first TV series in Hollywood that was written & created by deaf people.
Maria Isabel, whose brilliant beam of light shines so bright, NEEDS OUR HELP. Isabel is severely disabled and her family moved to the United States LEGALLY over 16 years so that she could get the medical care she needs to survive. IN TWO WEEKS, Isabel and her family will be deported due to a change in policy, despite a plea from her doctors and lawyers to the government stating she would die if forced to leave the country. Let me reiterate, if deported she will NO LONGER have access to the medical treatment that keeps her alive.
Isabel’s family immigrated here LEGALLY. They have jobs, their own home, pay taxes. Isabel graduated at the top of her class. They ARE model citizens.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
1.Please share Isabel’s story with the hashtag #SaveIsabel on all of your social platforms.
2. Tweet the president and sign the Change.org petition (link in bio)
