Now interrupting our regular programming to say this: USE YOUR VOICE. India is witnessing a horrifying spate of discriminatory, fascist, authoritarian, anti-secular efforts to suppress voices raised in debate and dissent against #CAB and the #NRC. Even if you don’t agree, you cannot just watch the injustice meted out and be unmoved. Seeing the courage of youth as protests rage on in #Delhi despite unwarranted violence and trauma inflicted on STUDENTS by the Delhi police, makes me want to at least in a small way, raise my voice in support of the country we know and love and will fight for: NOT what the current administration wants it to be 🙏🏼 If Hong Kong protests could reverse an unjust law imposed on its citizens by China, surely this DEMOCRACY will have to listen to the voices of strident protest from its citizens from all corners of this nation. THIS IS YOUR HOME. TIME TO SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER.
You might think you’re safe, you will not be affected, but WAKE UP. History proves dictators and authoritarian regimes spare no one but themselves. Don’t be fooled by vote bank politics. This isn’t even about Hinduism. It’s about POWER. .
.
Repost from @naqvi_sarah using @RepostRegramApp – Everyone following me right now, I beg you to act now, turn up for the protests, stand by students, this isn’t happening to ‘others’ anymore, this is violence against your own, your best friend, your sister, your partner, your neighbour!
You were to scream when it all began, but if you didn’t, do it now! RISE NOW!
You kept quiet when they came for Kashmir, for trans people and their rights, for indigenous communities, for muslims, and other marginalised groups, there isn’t much left! No one is safe, no one but the oppressors!
This is in your home, hate is being spewed in your own house!
WE DONT NEED YOUR LIKES, SHOW ME YOUR VOICE!
Something about rounding up this last quarter of the year has me feeling nostalgic. Also: love. So many friends committing or re-committing to the notion of love in different forms had me reflect. Then I found this image of us, when we just started dating in 2011. We were youngish- spring chickens at 40- care free, kind of fancy and supposedly committed to our singledom ✌🏼Cheers to devising a life together, free of rules, convention and our own personal baggage.
Me: this way to La Plage, my love. Where the food is so yummy and the sunset view is divine. I promise it’s worth it, my Soleil Rani, just a few metres this way…
Soleil: view is fine RIGHT HERE.

Thank you @forestlight for the gift of your creative vision. I’d title this: ‘The strength and resilience to overcome is within us all. Dig deeper, you’ll find it.’

For those of you who don’t know, @lovetheworldtoday.in is co-founded by Dipti and me (Dipna) – two sisters. And when asked how has our journey with this business been so far – our learnings and ups and downs, the one thing I can say without even blinking my eyes is that it’s made me realise the precious gift of sisterhood in my life! And I’ve been lucky to be blessed with girlfriends that feel like chosen family! Here’s to sisterhood!! @lisaraniray – May your two little angels #Sufi and #soliel grow up wrapped in the magic and security of the love of sisterhood! 💕tagging all my sisters on this post! Here we go again, seeking the edge of everything. Aswem Beach, Goa
May 23rd, 2019 was the culmination of a lifelong dream.
I launched my first book into the world #ClosetotheBone
I am humbled and gratified by the response from readers across India, who have generously supported my writing debut, have shared their genuine responses and buoyed me as I embark on the long, lonely, exhilarating road to write three new books.
Special thanks to my publisher @harpercollinsin and editor @diyakar73 my incredible lit agent @jayapriyavasudevan and allies and compatriots of my heart’s strongest desires @thepostcarder @farrokhchothia @preetasukhtankar @tishanidoshi @freidapinto @sujstyle @nonitakalra @nfenby @dipikablacklist @shreya_punj @karunaezara @priyankaraja
Very special thanks to @rohitingoa who responded to an enigmatic request from a stranger to shoot her book cover. The haunting results are there for everyone to see.
And @shabnamsriv whose heart felt support of #ClosetotheBone has translated into the most wonderfully dogged persistence in escorting my book into people’s minds and bookshelves.
I have written in #ClosetotheBone that ‘people don’t want to confront the messy reality of their objects of fantasy’ and this perpetuates an unhealthy obsession with an unachievable beauty standard as well as denial of what’s healthy and really beautiful 🙏🏼 Repost from @hellomagindia using @RepostRegramApp – “I don’t feel like I need to hide any longer. ‘In many ways the twenty-first century is not that different from the thirteenth century. Both will be recorded in history as times of unprecedented religious clashes, cultural misunderstandings and a general sense of insecurity and fear of the Other. At times like these, the need for love is greater than ever’ – Elif Shafak, The Forty Rules of Love

The vacation payoff ||
I wonder, sometimes, if we do not collectively act to conserve our planet, to rehabilitate the effects of climate change, of polluted waterways and deforestation, we’ll be left with no choice but to create an artificial reality.
And as I watched the sun meet water, breathed in sea air and unavoidable contentment, I knew, nothing in our collective imagination can ever replace gloriae mundi naturalis : the glorious natural world. Aswem Beach, Goa
Thank you @nithyashanti for this powerful reminder🙏🏼 .
You Don’t Have to Feel Good
It is a common mistake to equate our spiritual growth with how we are feeling. Actually there is no such correlation. We can grow tremendously while feeling rather unpleasant. We can stagnate tremendously while feeling all mushy and pleasant.
A lot of teachers and teachings these days promote the idea that the secret to all kinds of abundance, well-being, magic and manifestation is to just FEEL GOOD! This doesn’t match my experience. I have yet to meet anyone who can manage to feel good all the time, no matter how evolved they claim to be. If anything it only creates a fantastic unintegrated shadow. So let us tweak this popular message in a way that is more helpful: GET GOOD AT FEELING (whatever you are feeling)! Feelings come and go like the weather. Some cycle rather quickly, even momentarily. Others have rythmns that cycle over hours, days or even decades. Yet cycle they do. And beneath the larger cycles are perpetual micro-cycles. This is a dynamic universe. To witness the comings and goings of these winds, waves, tides and seasons of feelings, is to have patience and trust the process of life.
Our true nature is sky like – forever unaffected and undefined by the type and color of the clouds moving through. The dance of the manifest universe occurs on a platform of absolute stillness. The depth and stability of this recognition is a better indication of the maturity of our spiritual process. It is an open gate to every kind of exquisiteness.
Have patience
Trust the process of life
Whether or not you “feel good” –
Get good at feeling
Into and beyond
These present feelings
This is very healing.

In honour of a spate of wonderful events celebrating #ClosetotheBone in #Delhi, everyone’s favourite bookstore @bahrisons_booksellers has fresh stock. Head to Khan market to get your copy from this iconic establishment.
Let me now take this opportunity to emphasize what #ClosetotheBone is NOT:
It’s not a cancer memoir
It’s not a celebrity autobiography
It’s not a self-help book
It’s not been written to appeal to any particular audience, mainly because I write to understand myself.
.
If you strapped me down and asked me to define my writing debut, I will say: to make the choices you want and pay the price for them is a blessing though the world will have you believe otherwise. That is the essence of my story.
And humour. Always irony and humour. . .
‘Laugh in the face of adversity,’ said Ricky Gervais, ‘and you’ll be bulletproof.’

Repost from @whereistheshire using @RepostRegramApp – If you are an Indian who grew up in the 90s then you know who Lisa Ray is. One of India’s first supermodels, her pictures were plastered all over from magazines to billboards to TV adverts, a face you just can’t miss. Her early Bombay Dyeing adverts and her walking around in the desert in Afreen Afreen are clear as day in my head. So when she sent me a copy of her autobiography Close to the Bone, I was giddy with excitement.
Reading her story was surreal. Lisa Ray is a really beautiful woman and I assumed that the life of a really beautiful woman must be easy and cushy, but I was wrong big time.
Lisa has had a turbulent but exciting life. She became a coveted poster girl at 16 and with that kind of stardom comes a glamorous life. She jets off to London and Italy at a moment’s notice, literally sits on her haunches and makes rotis as she practices for her role in Water, meets people from the top rung to the bottom shelf from Bollywood and all of this makes for a very, very interesting read. But at the same time, Lisa has her own host of problems, dealing with her body image issues, coping with her mother’s accident, strained relationships, her illness. Her emotions are so raw that at times I wished I could jump right into the book and protect her.
Lisa’s writing is the best part. She is funny, like make you laugh out loud funny, but also deeply poignant and emotional. Her imagery is rich and vivid, creating in my head visuals of places that she had visited.
I loved Lisa’s story but I felt the novel could have been edited better. At places there was too much unwarranted information and a lot of explanation about subjects that I would have just googled otherwise.
All in all it’s a book that should definitely not be missed.
My rating – 3.5/5
