❤️ I didn’t share the extra reasons why Grandma Tata’s 90th was such a special occasion. We feel like we were so blessed to have extra time with her. She grew up partially deaf in rural Ohio and I think navigating that challenge made her into the indomitable firecracker she was- all 4 feet 9” of her! So she was undaunted when diagnosed, at 59, with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and given months to live, at one point the family was told she wouldn’t make it through the night. But she battled it like a boss; she was given the @americancancersociety Courage award. When she recovered- her doctors readily used the word “miracle” – she volunteered for many years at the hospital where she was treated. When she got older, she still volunteered from home by hand-sewing thousands of personalized teddy bears she’d take to others battling the disease to cheer them on. We couldn’t be more grateful we still got to have her with us all this time. She said that during chemo she used to pray and meditate on getting to watch her grandchildren grow up. And she’s done so much more than that! To all those battling cancer, don’t give up hope, we are sending you love; I hope that someday, on your 90th birthday, your grandkids are in awe of your strength and determination. I was always in awe of her pluck- she had a very Midwestern kind of can-do cheerfulness in the midst of any storm. And she gave the best hugs.
She passed away peacefully just before Thanksgiving, holding my mom’s hand. My family already misses her so; we will treasure all she taught us. ❤️

🌻Finally some good news this week, yet again from small but mighty NZ! Way to go!! This is how to respond to our shared, incredibly urgent situation – spelled out so clearly again this week by the #biosciencejournal Climate Emergency declaration— signed by more than 11000 scientists from 153 countries!— and seeing it sure brightened my day (especially on the heels of the reckless withdrawal of the US from the Paris agreement 😔)

#climatejustice now! Thank you @gretathunberg and @climatestrikeca for mobilizing everyone today, thanks to everyone who came out to protest, in spite of the wildfires and extremely hot November day (the irony of it all) And Ps also thanks @mrgrahamhill for organizing our schoolbus! )🚌👬👯♀️👫👭🚶🏽♀️🕴🏽#fridaysforfuture #climatestrike #timeisrunningout #wereallinthistogether
