Minka Kelly Instagram – repost @action4ifaw IFAW ambassador @MinkaKelly toured @lionstigers_andbears—an accredited “no kill, no breed, no contact” wildlife sanctuary in Alpine, California—to help us highlight the makings of a true sanctuary.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Lions Tigers & Bears provides a safe haven for abused and abandoned exotic animals and advocates to end the exotic animal trade. Unlike pseudo-sanctuaries, which seek to profit from wild animals, Lions Tigers & Bears does not use their animal residents for commercial purposes. They also do not breed their animals and do not allow public contact with them. Cub petting and photo ops with wild animals are dangerous practices that put people at risk and are inhumane for the animals which are often drugged, declawed/defanged, or taken from their mothers at a young age.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Minka met the residents of Lions Tigers & Bears (from a safe distance!), like Maverick the tiger and Baloo the moon bear. All have spacious, enriching habitats, nutritious diets, and quality veterinary care utilizing the highest safety standards.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ She also helped advocate for an incredibly important bill—the Big Cat Public Safety Act. Reflecting broad public support for safeguarding tigers, lions, leopards, and other big cats, Congress is considering legislation that would bring an end to the private ownership of dangerous wild cats in the U.S. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ If this bill passes, it would help keep big cats out of the hands of unscrupulous breeders, pseudo-sanctuaries, and roadside zoos.
