Took this #Selfie some days ago. Haven’t had much time since 😊 The last few days have been busy. Yes, even in a lockdown there are things to be done. People to be fed. Systems to be implemented to safe guard and protect all in our Co-Op.
Have been on our society’s managing committee for over 8 years. Because change, help, progress, love, care, empathy must begin at HOME.
80% of our residents are senior citizens. Most of them are single with their children living overseas. They are all above the age of 75. Guess what? They are independent, strong, resilient. Before this lockdown many of them would self drive, many of them continued to engage and help with accounts, management of the co-op, cook, clean, work, exercise… They are our neighbours, our friends. Our personal heroes.
Now is the time to help them get what they need – ESSENTIALS. The things they would walk across to pick up, or drive to buy. Now they MUST not. Because they are MOST susceptible and vulnerable to #Covid19.
So we (Managing Committee) volunteered to organise a vegetable vendor come to our co-op to sell vegetables 2 times a week, a fruit seller to come 2 times a week. (Most online services are not available at Khar/Bandra West and they are not comfortable with technology)
We maintain a distance of 5ft, ensure they place their orders on the society group, ensure they come to collect their items at staggered timings.
We personally wipe down all common areas of touch with alcohol disinfectants. We take turns to manage our domestic waste, yes, we continue to segregate our waste and compost all kitchen waste. We take turns to water our beautiful garden.
We are in this together. We continue to maintain a distance of 5 feet from one another, we continue to practice #SafeHands.
We will continue to #StayHome #StaySafe and HELP EACH OTHER.

Theatre was such an intrinsic part of our education. We scripted many of our stories along with our teachers. Our scripts would be English, some Hindi, some Telugu… We performed well known works but often opted for originals!

What is health? Yes, it is fitness of body and mind. Yes, this is achievable through regular physical exercise and healthy eating habits. But what i have learnt to understand over the years is good health is intrinsically connected to the health of the environment. Clean air, clean soil, clean seas, clean food and regular interaction in open spaces with nature. This leads to balance.
This #WorldHealthDay i want to acknowledge our sanitation workers. They work in the most challenging conditions and are most often ignored and neglected by society. Especially during this time when they continue to work everyday to manage bio-medical waste and all the waste we continue to produce while we stay home. They are HEROES. @my_bmc

As we learn that washing hands regularly can help save lives, let us also remember that we must turn taps off while lathering soap on our hands.

Time for a reminder. As we stay home, stay safe, we must consider the opportunity to make a big difference at this time!
Segregation of waste and composting wet waste or kitchen waste (vegetable and fruit peels, left overs from pots, pans and plates, tea leaves, basically anything that grows from the Earth can go back to the Earth) as a daily practice is a wonderful contribution towards our society and environment.
Consider this, our civic body continues to work to collect our waste and dispose of it responsibly even during this pandemic. Wouldn’t you want to take the opportunity to use this time at home and put into practice reducing the waste we create?
This simple daily action will not only help reduce the burden on our civic workers but would also help combat air, land and sea pollution.

The ‘silence’ of the night and the super moon! The moon was closest to Earth on the 7th of April 2020 between 8pm and 8am IST.
Bringing in one of my birthday’s as a child, Ma @deepamirza blindfolded me, took me out to our terrace and unveiled my eyes. As i looked for my birthday ‘gift’, she pointed out the moon. And said to me, “This year, this is your gift. From this day on, whenever you look at the moon, know it is yours.” I recognise now, more than ever, that these gifts she chose for me were the best gifts a child could ever receive.
