The first milestone for a mother and child, revered in Hinduism. 😇
Ideally, as a ritual we would have “stepped out of the house “ for the “FIRST” time and taken her to a temple for blessings, but as things stand today don’t have that option. Hence, will seek blessings at our mandir at home.
It only makes me realise that there are so many other things we should be grateful for even if some things don’t go as per plan. So, for the next 20 days, I’m going to document one thing that I’m grateful for EVERY DAY.
Starting with TODAY, I’m so grateful for just having a healthy family by my side. Let’s use this time to thank the universe for all the wonderful things and daily manifest positivity in our lives. Had no idea my mom was shooting this… but she managed to capture such a priceless moment. Watching this video made me realise it’s such a blessing to have kids and also have these important conversations with your child. Ha ha ha 😂🤣one who can be your friend too🤗! Today, I’m grateful for a child who is respectful to all, is sensible & understanding even at such a tender age. I enjoy all the banter with him and knowing his conversations can easily lift all our spirits is a lovely feeling. 😇❤️🧿Also, saying a special prayer for all parents and children caught in these trying times. May we all come out of this stronger than before🙏🏻🧿❤️

Cleaning and tending to the garden for these last few days. This lockdown time has made me realise and remember that having help in any form is one of those few things we should always appreciate. Our lives become so much easier because of all our house help/staff but unfortunately, sometimes we only realise this in times like these. Today, I’m grateful for every single person who has made life easier for us in their own way. It is because of them that we can enjoy the gift of time to go out and pursue our dreams. When life gets back to normal, don’t forget to let them know that you value them.

One of the greater joys of life is to see your efforts coming to fruition in this circle of life; whether it is about starting a new venture, seeing your child grow up or just the plants you nurture bearing vegetables and fruits for you to enjoy. Planted these seeds in pots a few months ago and was thrilled to see brinjals and chillies ready to be harvested 🍆🌶😍 As they say, what you sow, so you shall reap. Clean organic produce. Same with your thoughts actually, think clean and positive; and the fruits those thoughts manifest into will be beautiful. C’est la vie!
Mother Nature never fails to amaze me. Today, I’m grateful for the fresh produce and for nature’s many blessings…
Oh also, the Baingan Ka Bharta we had for lunch was delicious 😍

It’s a dichotomy of emotions. I am concerned about what’s happening around us while we are hoping and praying for the situation to get better across the world, I’m also valuing and spending extra time with Viaan every day. We spent this morning creating these little love notes for each other. I genuinely value these moments.

I am an ‘assal Mumbaikar’… and like all of us, I’ve always known of Mumbai as the city that never sleeps! Never did I think that there’d be a day when I’d see the streets of my city empty as they are today. I have been seeing some of these images on the internet ever since the Janta Curfew and the subsequent lockdown. It’s disheartening to see the city so silent, but also a consolation that ‘most’ people who are responsible and sensible are staying at home.
It’s a matter of time, I’m sure that together with our indomitable spirit, we will fight this too!
Today, I’m grateful for belonging to a city that has stood the test of time and fought every battle in front of us as one unified force. I’m a proud Mumbaikar and Indian 🇮🇳❤️🙏🏻

My 68-year-old Mom-in-law working out and I sneaked up on her… this is sooo inspiring.
She’s highly diabetic but just the fact that she takes the time out to walk (even if it’s around the house) or do yoga/stretch or breathe… she makes that effort. I respect the discipline she maintains, only shows that she ‘values’ her health. This video is so inspiring, it is proof that it’s never too late to start.
She’s gonna kill me for posting this, but I had to… Love you and your spirit mom… So grateful for all your blessings and for the fact that you inspire us all❤️🧿🤗🌈

The sponge was made by me and Viaan ate a slice of the cake before the meringue came on, hence it looks incomplete.🤦🏽♀️ But the whole process made the celebration completely worthwhile. Today marks the 8th day of the Chaitra Navratri, which is known as Durga Ashtami… I always prepare the Prasad personally. So tried the Makhana and Gur ki Barfi as an offering this time. Specially prayed for strength for all of humanity to get through these times and emerge victorious as one community in the face of adversity.

Happy to share details of the recipe, if you’d like to make this sweet at home too. Also, can be had during the fast:
~
Ingredients:
• 1 1/2cups Roasted makhana (Fox Nuts)
• 1/2 cup Roasted chopped cashews
• 1/2 cup Roasted chopped almonds
• 2 tbsp Roasted pistachios
• 3 tbsp crushed Flaxseeds
• 1 tsp crushed saunf (fennel seeds)
• 4 crushed elaichi (green cardamom)
• 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
~
Sweet syrup:
• 1 cup water
• 1 cup jaggery (gur)
• 4 tbsp sugar
• 4 green crushed elaichi
• Grease a plate with ghee
~
Instructions:
1. Remove the outer skin of the cardamoms and grind them in the mortar.
2. Grease the tray, plate or a small thali with ghee. Keep aside.
3. Heat a wok, dry roast the makhana for about two-three minutes on medium heat. Then, crush them roughly. This can be done in a grinder.
4. Dry roast the nuts & seeds on medium heat for about a minute. Then, grind the nuts & seeds coarsely in the grinder.
5. Now, add the desiccated coconut in grounded nuts & seeds and puffed makhana.
6. Boil the jaggery, sugar, elaichi, and water in a wok/pan. After the first boil, reduce the heat and boil the sweet syrup till it thickens and makes two string syrup.
(Two string syrup means that you take a drop of syrup between your two fingers and then stretch the fingers – if the syrup that sticks between the two fingers is making two threads (or strings) then the thickness of syrup is appropriate. Takes about 7-8 mins.)
7. Now, add the roasted nuts & seeds, makhane, coconut powder, and cardamom, mix well, cook till the mixture absorbs the sweet syrup. Takes about 2 minutes on medium-low heat.
8. Now, turn off the heat and set the mixture on the greased tray. Let the mixture cool down, takes about 8-10 minutes. Now, cut the burfi in required shape.
