here’s something nice… i recently found this note that Michael J. Fox wrote to me after I screen tested for a pilot he wrote. i have always said that because i started acting so young i didn’t really have an acting role model, but as i grew up Michael J. Fox became it for me. i’ve watched Back to the Future more times than any other movie. i was 14 years old when i auditioned and was so nervous to meet him because i knew there wasn’t any way i wouldn’t tell him how much i loved him. he actually came in the waiting room to wait with me before the audition. i ended up not getting the part and was very disappointed. but meeting him and having this letter meant more to me than any job ever could.
@mayaerskine … here are some of my favorite pictures of you, some of which you approved, some you did not … some of which that show how i don’t look good kissing in a photo … some that show loving, funny, slightly more than distracted side of you … but hopefully, some that show just a little bit, how much i love and cherish you. happy birthday ❤️

according to my calculations, this mini press day we did for AVENUES happened a year ago today. @nicholasbraun & i spoke about how we’ve been in 4 movies together but this was the hardest one, and then Steven Soderbergh and I drank @singani63 from flasks as we did a q&a to a NY audience mostly comprised of Angarano’s. it was a very good day. and if you haven’t seen it yet, check out AVENUES, the film I wrote & directed on iTunes and prime.

here are some more things we’ve been watching recently… -“That Thing You Do!” this is still incredibly good and fun. really sad to hear about Adam Schlesinger. nice to know The Wonders are reuniting tonight for a Zoom watch party for the MusicCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. i just might join. -“In A Lonely Place” i was feeing noir-ish. Nicholas Ray (Rebel Without A Cause) directed this pretty excellent movie starring Humphrey Bogart. -“Bad Timing” a Nicolas Roeg movie w Art Garfunkel and Theresa Russell. it’s definitely worth a watch. i’m obsessed with a sequence i’ll post in my story in later. -“Daddy Longlegs” one of the Safdie Brothers’ first movies starring Ronald Brownstein. i heard about this for years but never saw it. it’s about their dad and feels very personal. not as stressful as Uncut Gems or Good Times, but close. i loved it. also, sorry the picture is very bad. -“High Hopes” a Mike Leigh movie. like a lot of his movies, this is a slice of life a time and place in the UK. all of his movies are great. -“Hables Con Ella” this was my first Almodóvar. ever. it exceeded my expectations. i love how emotional the men are in it. feels different than American movies. -“In the Mood for Love” also my first Wong Kar-wai. this movie is sort of mind blowing. again, very so for the picture but i feel like i’m too far into typing this to go back now… -“Dogtooth” never had seen this and @mayaerskine asked me about 10 times if i knew what was happening and made me guess. i guessed wrong twice before i figured it out. -“Terrace House” admittedly, i was hesitant. i just couldn’t imagine dedicating so much time to it. but it’s so… beyond worth it. i love it so much. it’s oddly relaxing. i look forward to watching all the earlier seasons. still can’t find Short Cuts. gonna start Battlestar Galactica. any more suggestions??
