That’s a clipping from the theatres of the first day first show of Hindi Medium, on May 19th, 3 years ago.
I could never have imagined that 3 years later – May 19th 2020 would be a day we’d be in a world without Irrfan Sir, and with theatres shut globally.
The oddity of our current times, sometimes really does frighten me.
Regardless! Here’s celebrating 3 years of this beautiful film. 🧡
Forever grateful for being such a small part of such a beautiful story. I was a 3rd year student in Delhi University when I shot for Hindi Medium, and the thought of just expanding my horizons as a performer by being around such inspirational artists meant the world to me, teaching me that no part as an actor is too big or small. I’m glad I made time away from the academic pressure of writing my thesis in the final year of college, and went ahead and did this. Saved myself from a huge regret I’d have carried with myself forever.
Films go on to become journeys so special, that they simply can’t be beaten down by trying to quantify each artist’s, technician’s, and contributor’s part to play in creating it.
In loving memory.

To every young adult who graduated college into a world with COVID. I’m incredibly sorry. You don’t deserve this. None of us do!
You’re stronger and far more capable than you think. And the future of our world literally rests in your hands. Feeling anxious, uneasy, unsettled and unhappy in a time like this is only natural. And it isn’t just you.
We need each one of you now, more than ever! ♥️ When I look back at the time I graduated, which is now 3 years ago, I wish there were a few more people to explain to me what all it’s going to feel like.
I had so many questions. So many fears. Unanswered. Unaddressed. I struggled and threw myself around to find my answers. But literally only after burning through that fire for long enough now, can I look back and be grateful for that struggle. Because that struggle taught me lessons that today, I’d be even more scared if I hadn’t learned.
While graduation in itself is a huge change in our lives, it’s even more so, in a COVID bound circumstance which presents such ODD & unique challenges for you that even those who want to help you really don’t exactly know what the right way to do that would be!
A large number of Delhi University students, students from colleges all over India that I’ve visited over the past year for different events, & platforms that want to discuss the issues of the youth have been writing in, and I felt a cumulative message where I try and summarise my thoughts about this situation could be helpful?
I hope my experiences with graduation and it’s confusion, can help even in the tiniest possible way. 🙏 #Graduation2020 #ClassOf2020 #Commencement

Since we’re being told there isn’t going to be a going “back to normal”
And there’ll be a “new normal”? Whatever. 😞

•Planting In The Pandemic 🌶 🥦🥒• Untrue.
Mum and dad have nursed every inch of our vegetable garden for years before the pandemic.
Before I moved out of home, I ate many of those vegetables and fruits everyday. Guilty as charged – without hardly even absorbing what a miracle that was.
Vegetables! With ZERO pesticide and ZERO fertiliser, directly from our garden, on to our kadhais and then our plates and in my tummy. And I went around being oblivious, or was too young to understand how special that was or simply didn’t have the mindspace to acknowledge it.
Why did it have to take terms “Farm to Table”, “Planting in The Pandemic”, “Organic is the future” to enter the mainstream – for me to spend time adoring & acknowledging these most beautiful potatoes, onions, garlic, beans, etc etc that were growing ON my home ground, ALL this while?
I’d treat “Organic Farming” as a great accomplishment that someone, somewhere is engaging with, without even realising it was what I pretty much grew up with.
This pandemic’s been one of the greatest teachers.
It’s the simplest learning,
“Be Grateful for What You Have.” I hate that it’s taken a pandemic for those words to become a reality for so many of us, me included. ☹️ Video courtesy : @themoodspace

Can I PLEASE teach you how actually to do the upward dog?! 🐶🧘♂️ My sweet little yoga companion does not appreciate a human trying to do the upward or downward dog, because it’s clearly only his birth right.
Meet Snoop Sanghi, he’s one of our five. And that’s him expressing disapproval. 🤍❌ #YogaFromHome #DogsOfInstagram New Delhi

If you’d have told me a few months ago, that on the morning of May 8th, the day Dil Bechara, your debut film that you poured every little ounce of blood, sweat and tears that your body didn’t even know you have into, which was already delayed and tested your patience every single day – you may just be sitting with coconut oil in your hair, in your pajamas at your home in Delhi? And theatres all over the world would be shut on that day because of a “Pandemic”?
I’d have laughed at you.
The thing with COVID-19 is that it’s altered all of ours, ALL of our best laid out plans and hopes. This is just me, sending out love, to :
Every student who was to go to college, or graduate from college & enter the real world
Every couple in love that was waiting to get married,
Every business man waiting biggest project explode,
Every artist waiting for a dream art gallery to finally exhibit their work,
Every dancer yearning to dance on stage again,
And every traveller waiting to see another corner of the world again.
Your plans haven’t been shattered for ever. They have just been put on pause. Maybe altered. Maybe delayed.
Don’t lose hope, because the world can’t afford that. Keep working as hard. To be able to rise again in a COVID-free world, which might be a different world, but it’ll be just as beautiful.
I’m at least telling myself that to give myself some strength today, and that’s all I can hope that you do too.
Also, I realised today, that my happiness and strength actually lay in the process. In the process of becoming another person as an artist, or creating those moments, of working myself tirelessly. The end product, matters a lot to me, but it’s not where I find my happiness anymore. And I wish I can hold onto this learning for the rest of my life.
The world we inhabit today, does feel like an entirely different world from the one we inhabited just until 2 months ago, no?
And this world, needs all of us, to do just a LITTLE bit more for each other!
It is an honor for me to associate with @unicefindia to do my bit towards this cause.
The UNICEF India team has been working relentlessly, round-the-clock, to help provide various essential supplies to healthcare facilities and quarantine centres. They could, however, really benefit from even a little bit of our help.
The link to contribute, however big or small, in helping our country, get back up on it’s feet so all of us can head towards a future that promises to be safer, healthier, and happier – is in my bio. 🙏
