Jasper Pääkkönen Instagram – My story (and character) in the Donald Duck comic book! I pitched an idea to the good people at @akuankka (Donald Duck Finland) of a story about how hydro power dams have destroyed many of the most important rivers and fisheries all around the world (even in Duckburg), and how removing dams is the way to revive these precious ecosystems. The vast majority of dams no longer serve any real purpose, but they have wiped out migrating fish populations and whole rivers. However, these obsolete dams are being removed all around the world, and times are truly changing: when hydro power used to be considered a green and environmentally friendly source of energy in the past, more and more people are realizing the devastation it has wreaked in the freshwater ecosystems, often destroying whole river systems and their fauna. So here we go: Huey, Dewey and Louie find a river with no fish, and discover a dam that has been built downstream. About 10 pages and many twists and turns later Donald Duck convinces Scrooge to hire a character called Paakkunen to demolish the dam. The salmon run the river again, the enviroment thrives and Scrooge gets even richer when returning tourists spend money on eco tourism services! Same in Finnish: mahtava tarina Aku Ankassa. Jasper Pääkkönen Instagram – ”Does sauna kill the corona virus?”. Perhaps because I built a sauna called Löyly (@loylyhelsinki) I’ve been recently asked quite a few questions about sauna & corona. There are numerous false ”expert” statements and claims flying around social media about how sauna supposedly kills the virus. Do not believe in these dangerous chain emails that people spread without any fact checks. Quickly: yes, regular sauna sessions are GREAT for increasing your body’s resilience towards a variety of illnesses, starting from alzheimer and dementia (for further reading & facts, google ”sauna & dementia”) all the way to strengthening your immune system. But unlike the numerous ”doing a 20 minute sauna session will kill corona” claims suggest, if you show any symptoms of corona, stay out of the sauna. Exposing your body to extreme heat when you have fever or experience any lung / respiratory problems is a terrible idea. A good rule of thumb: sauna as often as possible when healthy, stay away when feeling sick. And an update on Löyly: for the safety of our customers and staff, our saunas have been closed for some time now. The restaurant is closed as of today.
