Jasper Pääkkönen Instagram – Glacier King!! Thank you @solidadventures. Quite certainly the biggest salmonid fish I will catch during my lifetime. 85lbs / 38kg of pure madness – look at the size of that adipose fin. This chinook was caught in @estanciacristina in El Calafate, Argentina in the headwaters of Rio Santa Cruz. And then some bad news about the Santa Cruz: the river and its fishery will most likely soon be demolished by a Chinese mega dam & hydro power project. The construction of the dam has already begun – without any significant environmental impact studies on the dam’s effects on nature having been done. The few studies on the dam’s impact on birds and wildlife and questions on it’s impact on the nearby glaciers have simply been brushed off. For a few more years, fishermen will be able to enjoy the free flowing river system and it’s incredible king salmon fishery. What’s mindblowing is that the El Calafate region in Patagonia must be one of the windiest places on the planet. Jasper Pääkkönen Instagram – Swipe for videos 👉🏼 Back to our road trip in Patagonia a few weeks ago! As we were driving from Chile to El Calafate and on to @jurassiclake lodge we saw something move on the side of the dirt road. A cute creature was struggling to get up on it’s feet. We got out of the car, saw it was a newborn guanaco lying next to it’s own placenta, and helped him up. At first it seemed a bit scared, but after a minute or two it clearly started getting attached to us wanting our attention. We weren’t quite ready to become parents to a guanaco so we drove off to see if it’s parents would return, and after a short moment they ran to him for what seemed like a happy reunion. One of the unexpected highlights of the trip. #jurassiclake #guanaco #elcalafate #patagoniaargentina
