Lisa Ray Instagram – Repost from @rebeccasuhrawardi using @RepostRegramApp – These are Miami Police. When the protestors came they took a knee, and it’s exactly here where peace should begin. Why? Because it’s acknowledgment from the powers that be that there is a problem, and acknowledging the system’s role in it. It acknowledges that the problem doesn’t wholly originate from protestors or petty criminals. And what any human wants when they are being marginalized, hurt, oppressed or generally wronged is to be heard and acknowledged. To hear, from authority, or from an opposing party, “Yes, you are right, there is a problem. And we hear you.” And until oppressed people begin to hear and feel acknowledgment, uprise will always surface. People will always fight. Revolutions will always arise. This is history, this is life. Acknowledgment is the start of a solution. And right now, our leadership refuses to acknowledge there’s a problem with the system, and without it, how can we find solutions? Miami still got effed up from protests, but damn, at least the cops are thinking, and it gives me hope 👊 I’m proud of these officers. #miamiprotests #miamipolice
