Sorry, already bragged about this in my “stories,” but finally got to watch the actual episode, and I wanted to thank Executive Producer Matt Selman and everyone @thesimpsons for this lifetime achievement. Couldn’t be more proud that something Fiona and I created gets to share shelf space at The Android’s Dungeon. This is the only Saga crossover we’ll ever allow, and Lying Cat now canonically exists in both universes (as does Poochie). #yesstillworkingonnewissues #thanksforyourpatience #inanimatecarbonrod
How are you? Brian here, briefly emerging from my Yes I’m Writing More Saga Bunker to share something cool. Criminally gifted artist Marcos Martin has collaborated with one of my favorite writers/nemeses Ed Brubaker on an amazing new comic that you can read RIGHT NOW at the link in my bio. This story contains some of the most beautiful pages I’ve ever seen, thanks in no small part to the career-best colors of Muntsa Vicente, and the entire oversized first issue is available to download and own this second, for any price you think is fair. As with every comic at Panel Syndicate, creators keep all rights to their creations and 100% of the profits, so if you’re lucky enough to still be employed in these dark times, I hope you’ll show this hard-working team some love. Regardless, please read FRIDAY today. Even though it’s Wednesday. Thanks. Everyone hanging in there…? I’m filled with gratitude for all of you out there saving the world while I continue to do nothing but plow through a crate of my daughter’s unsold Girl Scout cookies. #imisscomicshops #butwhilewewait #digitalcomics #creatorowned #tagalongs
Hello, I’m 86 years old now, and spend my days reminiscing about a simpler time when we only wiped down our mail because we were terrified of anthrax. Anyway, you probably have other things on your mind at the moment, but did you hear that the amazing Oscar Isaac is playing Mayor Mitchell Hundred in THE GREAT MACHINE, an adaptation of our 9/11-era series from the fine folks @legendary? If you’re looking to binge the comic before the movie, but don’t want to shell out for that gorgeous hardcover omnibus, our friends at @dccomics Black Label (the book’s third imprint after Wildstorm and Vertigo!) have released an affordably priced new softcover compendium collecting the first half of our epic sci-fi political thriller. I still can’t believe some of the things @tonyeffingharris, @tomfeister, JD Mettler, Jared K. Fletcher and I got away with back in those strange days, but I think our story has aged pretty well (unlike me). #digthatcoolspine #supportyourlocalcomicshop #curbsidepickup #itchybeard
@dccomics did a lovely job with these Y omnibuses (omnibi?), in comic stores soon. I saw this sad looking monkey in the window of an old NYC photocopy place when I was 22 and depressed, and asked if I could buy him. Been with me since.
Streaming now on @hulu, the third, final and best season of @marvelsrunaways! I’m enormously grateful to showrunners @joshschwartz76 and @stephaniecarolsavage for assembling the coolest cast, crew and team of writers around, and for moments like this, when I got to introduce my kids (both the fictional ones I co-created with Adrian Alphona, and the less fictional ones I co-created with my wife) to Stan the Man, who inspired us to make something new and weird and hopefully worthy of becoming part of his universe. Thanks to everyone who’s watched, never stop running! #marvelsrunaways #stanlee #myshinydome
It’s true! Our friends @legendary have hired extraordinary screenwriters Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel to adapt Ex Machina, which we’ve retitled THE GREAT MACHINE (in part to avoid confusion with the excellent, equally hard to pronounce film that Alex Garland directed a few years back). More as it develops, but for now, thanks to @tordotcompub for being the only mainstream site to rightfully credit artist @tonyeffingharris as equal co-creator of a comic we’re both still enormously proud of. #endingwithapreposition #rebel
Calling all aspiring comic-book creators! Hi. Brian here. 2020 has been nutty busy so far, but I wanted to pop back on here to share the good news that this year’s Creators for Creators grant is now open! Some of your favorite writers and artists have banded together to give $30k to an unpublished creator or duo to support the creation of their debut comic. Check out our submissions page at creatorsforcreators.org for deadlines, FAQs, etc. That’s all for now. Back to writing. Thanks for reading. Bye. #art #commerce
I thought the new Star Wars was just delightful. But if you didn’t, remember that George Lucas created all this after he couldn’t secure the rights to Flash Gordon, so you can always take inspiration from the stuff you loved as a young person and make something wholly original that better speaks to who you are as a unique grownup individual. Good luck, xox, etc.
Okay, I’m pulling it.
@lupitanyongo is one of my 10 Favorite Humans, so a huge honor for Saga to be part of this excellent list.
Several years later, Saga once again the most checked-out graphic novel in NYC. Thanks for supporting our filth, librarians. #bragbrag
Happy belated Canada Day/early Independence Day. How good are Steve Skroce, Matt Hollingsworth and the mysterious Fonografiks? Sorry for the wonky cropping; I don’t know how to computer. Anyway, WE STAND ON GUARD, about a totally improbable future where the USA invades Canada, is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever been part of, and you can now read the entire series (and tons of other cool Image Comics) for as little as one measly American dollar. You can even decide where your money goes, including to charities like @thinkingbinc and @heroinitiative. If you’re curious, there’s a link to this “Humble Bundle” in my dumb bio. Thanks. So. How’s everybody holding up? Yeah. Uh-huh. Sorry. Same, pretty much. Well… be good? Bye. #superman #sorrycleveland #thanksfornotsuingusdc
My proudest achievement as a creator/father/human being. This tiny, anxious, plastic bag-fearing mutt and I walked a daily average of 13,163 steps together in 2019 (though her smelly paws probably did, what, double that?). Will any of you sedentary ‘gram-scrollers best us in 2020? No. No, you will not. Regardless, Milkshake and I wish you a healthy and productive new year. #cuttingapromo #dontsteptous #unlessyouareabag
Formerly inspirational neighborhood sidewalk chalkings have taken a turn.
Saturday is Local Comic Shop Day! Visit your friendly neighborhood retailer, and you can pick up a copy of WALKING DEAD: THE ALIEN, a special in-continuity one-shot that artist Marcos Martin and I originally created for our digital home @thepanelsyndicate, available in print for the first time thanks to Robert Kirkman and @skyboundent, with new gray tones from @cliffrathburnart and classic undead lettering from @ruswooton. Anyway, I’m currently on top-secret assignment somewhere in the South Pacific, but I’ll be back tomorrow and might swing by a few Los Angeles-area stores to support the amazing work our retailer friends do. Any suggestions for places I should hit? #thewalkingdead #localcomicshopday #sunburnedbaldhead
Get your commerce on! Hi, Brian here. Hope you had a nice weekend. My friends and I spent most of the last ten years making creator-owned comics, so we’re very grateful when you buy copies to share with loved ones for the holidays, especially when you can support your local retailer. But if they happen to be sold out, my new paymasters at @Amazon (home of the upcoming PAPER GIRLS tv series) are apparently having a big sale on some of our past collections, including the 1300+ page compendium of SAGA, which @entertainmentweekly was recently kind enough to name “Best Comic of the Decade.” Check the link in the @imagecomics bio for more details, and please consider buying a few books for the mature readers on your list. Thanks. I like you. Has anybody else seen The Lighthouse yet? It’s pretty great. Okay, have a good lunch break.
This disgusting, barely functioning massage chair at my kids’ local trampoline park is nothing less than the highlight of my month. #dadurday #noiwillnotwatchyoujumpagain #catsinthecradle #dadsinthechair

The Irishman is a complete masterpiece, one of Scorsese’s best. Performance of a lifetime from Pesci, magnificent cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto (who also shot the forthcoming Y pilot; cheap plug). Definitely worth seeing on the big screen if your bladder can handle the 3 1/2 hour runtime, especially if you can make it over to the Egyptian Theater, where I got this swell lobby card. Can’t wait to watch it again. #Marvel
Man, this Roundtable live reading was a night I will always remember, so thanks to all of you wonderful folks who came out to support us, the excellent crew at The Montalban Theater, Megan Halpern, Franklin Leonard and the entire dedicated team at the Black List, our amazing casting director Lisa Zagoria, and especially our cast, who completely transformed my dopey words into a hilarious evening. Chris Geere got huge laughs from little more than stage directions, Taran Killam and Natasha Rothwell brought Shakespearian gravitas to their Merlin and Morgana, the brilliant Lauren Lapkus and Anthony Carrigan need to be cast in a romantic comedy together immediately, Jay Pharoah and Joe Lo Truglio elevated each scene with their lightning-fast improv, and will anyone who got to attend ever forget Tony Hale as Sir Michael Caine? I can’t tell you what an honor and thrill it was to have actors of this caliber treating a bunch of JAWS: THE REVENGE jokes with such passion and dedication. Plus, free tacos after rehearsal! I can share that, thanks to this Saturday’s performance, there’s already been some interest in once again trying to bring this story to the screen, but for me, this reading will always be the REAL version of Roundtable. #luckybastard
Our reading might be sold out by the time you read this, so now I’m just bragging, but look at this cast! Joining the three amazing actors I mentioned in my previous post are Emmy-winning star of Veep and Arrested Development Tony Hale, the obscenely brilliant Chris Geere from You’re the Worst, Hamilton’s best King George III Taran Killam, plus Barry’s own NoHo Hank (and, empirically, one of the handsomest men alive) Anthony Carrigan! These are my favorite actors from my favorite shows, so I can’t thank everyone at The Black List enough for assembling this Roundtable to read a comedy screenplay I was certain was lost to time. This won’t be recorded or repeated (and there are still more surprise talents joining us!), so please check the link at my bio if you want in on November 2. I’m so nervous that I can’t stop throwing up, though that might just be the toxic air in the Valley right now. Ricardo Montalban Theatre
Behold this lovely poster from the designers at @theblcklst! And I’m honored/baffled to share the first three members of the unbelievable cast for our one-night-only reading of my old screenplay Roundtable on November 2. From Saturday Night Live, legendary impressionist/comedian @jaypharoah! And from Comedy Bang! Bang! and Crashing, the amazing @laurenlapkus! And from everything from Wet Hot American Summer to my beloved Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it’s @joelotruglio! Yes, after years of British actors taking all the good American roles, it’s time for some Yankee payback. More equally unreal cast announcements coming, and tix are going fast, so hit that bleedin’ link in my bio, guv’nor! (I’m so sorry.) #roundtable #snl #comedybangbang #brooklyn99 #dodgyaccents Ricardo Montalban Theatre
Too busy rocking out to take a better pic of Sylvan Esso, but this show was INCREDIBLE. I first heard the Talking Heads when I was 12, and I distinctly remember thinking, “I am so happy to be alive at the same time as this band,” and that’s exactly how I felt tonight. New songs are spectacular, and it was a joy to be introduced to @hand.habits. Please make a pilgrimage to see them, no matter where you live. Oh god, I have to be awake in a few hours for a tv pitch and I’m too old. #old #slackjawme Walt Disney Concert Hall
Hi. Two final things about that live reading of my long-lost screenplay Roundtable this Saturday: 1) There are just a few mezzanine seats left, so hit the link in my bio if you’d like to join us, and 2) You should absolutely join us, because the Black List has just announced the final member of our spectacular cast, from Insecure, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984, the uproarious @natasharothwell! I am a very lucky writer. Anyway, that’s it for the plugs. Thanks to everyone who’s coming. I’ll be there too, so please say hello if you see me. How’s everything with you? Any big plans for your Thursday? Ricardo Montalban Theatre
