Seven years ago today, I finally got my pilots license. It was a lot of stops and starts prior to that, and after that, but through it all, it has been an invitation to learn. My obsession with the wild blue yonder has never left me and, God willing, never will. I’ve met some amazing people through this crazy community of pilots. I decided to take Paul to one of the oldest Italian bakeries in Philly, @isgro_pastries . We met Gus, the owner who we talked with for almost thirty minutes about the eagles and his experience making pastries for the pope, etc. I miss and love this city so much! But more importantly, I told Gus how much we need a bakery like his in Nashville. “Daddy, the only reason I want to go on this trip is for the horseback ride”. I had promised her a ride through the mountains. My oldest is used to riding horses through the rolling pastures of Tennessee, but never the steep mountains of Idaho. I’ll say this, parenting is tough, and there have been so many times during quarantine where I just want a break from my kids…. (I’m sure none of you have felt the same way). I have had to slap myself around and remind myself that I will never ever be given this gift again, in my life. A time where life slows down enough that I am forced to connect and spend quality time with them, and the business of life is pushed to the side. There are no pressing engagements. The world has slowed down. This goes against my driven nature, but I am thankful for the opportunity to watch them grow. And man, looking at this picture, it happens FAST. So thankful for @yahoocorrals and Sky Wilson for taking us on trail ride through her private slice of Idaho. If you’re in McCall, look her up. You won’t regret it. Just got back from God’s country. Took the family to McCall, Idaho. As difficult as quarantine has been for people, I think some good has come from it. A lot of travel plans were ruined, but I think it’s forced us to explore the beauty in the areas of our countries that have always been there, right under our noses, but that we’ve never visited. This was from a hike we did to a little alpine lake named Louie Lake. Epic. A lot of people are in a lot of pain around the world right now. I’m thankful for moments in life where the busyness is stripped away, and we get back to the simplicity of what matters. Spending time shooting our bows together and being fully present to little man, with no distractions. No other sounds outside except the birds chirping. The leaves all starting to bud and spring coming into bloom. A reminder that we are heading out of winter…… so many similarities to what the world is going through right now. We are in a winter, no doubt….. but very soon, the trees will start to green up. This too shall pass. Prayers for everyone out there. Let’s get back to simple, again.

Today, I laid to rest one of my dearest friends in this life. Richard “Brooks” Douglass led a life that most would find to be unbelievable, if told. It was my honor to portray him in the movie “The Amendment”, 10 years ago. It is one of the few times where work and life intersect, and a beautiful friendship transcends anything that we put on screen. The movie only tells the smallest fraction of a life that impacted so many, so deeply. Rest easy, brother. Your legacy lives in in your beautiful wife, and amazing children. Love you, Brooksie
If you haven’t read @davidgoggins book yet, do yourself a big fat favor and get it. It is a healthy dose of “get over it” in a world and time where our excuses dictate our actions. David puts his money where his mouth is, still, to this day. I see him running and training in the worst conditions, in my home town in Tennessee. He is a guy that had every reason as to why he shouldn’t ________, and instead, gave those reasons the middle finger. 👏🏻 well done, sir. #canthurtme
