Inter-species junction. Jackfruits make awesome baby-sitters 😅
Those va-va-voom days. Pre-kids. Truthfully- enjoying this current phase as much if not more than the one that came before.

This photo from a year ago popped up to remind me of the day #Souffle got their OCI cards. They charmed the entire Indian consulate in Hong Kong and I believe a small dance party broke out. Grateful to be Canadian-Indian-Singapore based 🙏🏼
Picture of one of my favourite humans popped up just like that. As far as this business of life unspooling goes, I’m glad I shared time, meals and memorable conversation with this elegant soul @_adilhussain when we worked in a film called #Dobara
BULBUL. I loved it for its melancholic atmosphere, the music, production design and fabulous performances – not a false note- but mainly for producer @AnushkaSharma penchant for subversion. In #Bulbul its a traditional folktale and the ‘chudail’ trope re-examined through a feminist lens. Congratulations also to director/writer @anvita_dee for establishing a potential new genre of Bengali gothic. With more women calling the shots behind the camera the future of content in India is super exciting.
GO LADIES Go! Hope to see even more women wrench the baton away and pass it with care from one out stretched female hand to the next.
And how stunning is this young @tripti_dimri who carries off such a complex role with grace.
And this image sums up our Live.
Full feels. I might have shed a tear.
You don’t need me to tell you how magnificent and radiant is @iamkirtikulhari but if you want to get a glimpse of the intellect and soul behind those riveting performances, check out our talk on Kirti’s IGTV
I was so touched by her support of my book #ClosetotheBone
I can’t wait to continue our talk in person whenever we can.

Repost from @cbcbooks using @RepostRegramApp – Model, actor, TV host and former #CanadaReads panellist Lisa Ray’s memoir Close to the Bone is being released on Nov. 3, 2020 and we have a first look at the cover and an early excerpt.
•
Lisa Ray is one of India’s most successful cover models, has been a host of Top Chef Canada and an actor who was in the Oscar-nominated film Water, the Amazon Prime series Four Shots More Please and the upcoming A.R. Rahman film 99 Songs.
She also defended David Chariandy’s novel Brother on Canada Reads 2019.
In 2009, she was diagnosed the rare blood cancer multiple myeloma. She revealed her diagnosis on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, and shared her journey on a blog called The Yellow Diaries.
Ray is now sharing her story — from her rise to the top of the model and acting world after being discovered at 16, how her cancer turned everything upside down and the highs and lows in between — in her new memoir, Close to the Bone.
Close to the Bone will be published on Nov. 3, 2020.

Springboarding into Phase Public Hugs. (I’m in #Singapore all you self appointed online social distancing enforcers – and yes we arrived in masks) My friend #SonalKaramchandani has not been able to return home to Bangkok, went into quarantine when she was airlifted out of India by the Singapore government 👏🏽 and is now waiting to be reunited with her hubby. While she’s a healer and the most accepting, positive person around, a glass of wine (or three) to toast this season of churn and personal revelation was pretty much essential tonight.
Happy Guru Purnima. I bow to the Guru principle which guides me steadily towards reclaiming my light and the utter dissolution of all boundaries and illusions. Coolio ✌️

Repost from @archdigestindia using @RepostRegramApp – The most unexpected thing about manic megalopolises high on sound and activity are the things that stay hidden behind their frenetic, bombastic facades. The things that reveal themselves to those who look long enough, and hard enough. Like the mangrove park in Mumbai which becomes a carpet of pink during the annual pilgrimage of pink flamingos. Like suddenly coming upon a by-lane in a cul-de-sac covered in a canopy of trees. Like Lisa Ray’s (@lisaraniray) quiet apartment in the bubbling over suburb of Bandra. “I walked in and I just knew. It was the large, covered outdoor space that drew me which is a bit of a find in Bandra, as well as the privacy and the building,” says the polymath about the apartment she bought some years ago. The connection was instant and over a “sleepless month—I was in Canada at the time”—the deal was done.

“I wanted a lived-in feeling for the flat, like it was an ancestral home that had been passed on,” she says. Her search for an interior architect ended in Goa, completely by luck, when she forged an aesthetic, almost cosmic, connection with the future interior architect of her Mumbai home—the celebrated author Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi (@thepostcarder).“A close friend brought me to Sid’s home [in Goa] for dinner and as soon as I walked in, I literally gasped, grabbed his hand and asked him to design my home.” Shanghvi’s visual language had an almost instinctive understanding of what Ray wanted. “I feel Sid and I share one aesthetic soul. Let me reframe that: his aesthetics have nurtured mine. I think sometimes of a story of two scaffoldings that, when they are removed, reveal the same space. The scaffolding was in my mind and Sid manifested it.” Explore the home in detail. #linkinbio

Repost from @kauverikhullaar using @RepostRegramApp – “…how fortunate a thing it is, when life alters you without warning”. ‘Close to the Bone’ – a book that changed my perspective on life so radically, I made notes so as to fully imbibe the values it spoke to, to read and re-read, to learn or to lighten my load from whatever was weighing me down. Naturally the book is making its way around the world, just like its author @lisaraniray , the girl with a hippie soul, touching lives everywhere she goes. Next stop North America, yay!! An excerpt:
“I am composed of all the things seen and known and experienced, the emotions of a life lived close to the bone. I can feel it all expanding in my chest, filling my veins. And now, when I debut a new body on the shimmering opacity of the red carpet, I will reveal how fortunate a thing it is, when life alters you without warning.” @cbcbooks
These artful vignettes arrived in Singapore. When I first saw @rajovilla work on a commissioned cover for @bazaarindia they resonated deep in some secret place. When I looked up Joya’s work online, I understood we share parallel experiences of growing up bi-racial with strong emotional and aesthetic ties to our Bangla lineage. Anyone who has read @closetothebone.book understands how my childhood memories of summer vacations in our ancestral home in North Kolkata and another in Serampore have flavoured my life: in @rajovilla I find a visual vocabulary to express that affection and nostalgia. Look up Joya’s art and be carried away.

There’s few things that touch me more as an author than feeling that the words have landed. Thank you readers and high functioning bookoholics 😎

This is a very humbling reveal. Little girl from the suburbs of Toronto experiences all her fragmented bits come together in this moment. Thank you @Jayapriya888 @doubledayca @cbcbooks and all the readers, my emotional scaffolding (aka friends) and stealthy drifters who understand there’s a harmony to it all that is occasionally made visible. Thank you @farrokhchothia for the cover image.
Repost from @doubledayca using @RepostRegramApp – We are proud to publish CLOSE TO THE BONE, a memoir by Lisa Ray. It’s an unflinching, deeply moving account of her life, tracing her childhood in Canada as the biracial daughter of an Indian man and a Polish woman, her rise as a popular Bollywood star, and her battle with a rare, incurable cancer. On sale November 3rd and available to pre-order now.

How the presence of right queer representation in the global content revolution is changing the way the queer community is being perceived and accepted. The culture shift through art. Is society becoming a reflection of the content the world is consuming today?

One of my favourite sustainable luxury brands of pure Himalayan goodness. Feed your senses with this beautiful brand film, their first ever. Congratulations @jj_jessicajayne for finding alignment in all you do ❤️
Repost from @pahadilocal using @RepostRegramApp – @pahadilocal continues to make every effort to stay true to its brand vision of bringing you a part of the Himalayas in its simplest and purest form. Our story began with the serendipitous encounter between Gutti Ka Tel (Apricot Kernel Oil) and our Founder @jj_jessicajayne . Gutti Ka Tel not only changed her skin but also forever transformed the way she looked at skincare with a strong commitment to source. This is our first Brand Film and we are excited to share it with you. It gives us great joy to say that this little piece of communication has been worked on by dear friends who as individuals are completely aligned with Pahadi Local’s core beliefs. By their grace and goodwill we have this beautiful experience to share through this series of films.
Crafted by @sunhilsippy – a close friend who is probably one of the first to hear & believe in the narrative of Pahadi Local & also an early family investor. Sound Design by @sattyananda @audioaashram who has also been a consistent source of support and encouragement. Thank you for being a special part of this journey ♥️
