She has been my friend since I moved to Chicago 10 years ago, she’s been @merediddys’ friend since childhood, she and @krispop03 secretly transformed our apt so I could surprise propose to Meredith (they were the only people I told!), and she gave the only speech at our wedding (you can see her roasting me in the last photo). She is so bright, makes me laugh in ways no one else can, and is a role model business woman! On top of all that, she knows when to laugh at herself (weeeooo! It was so much fun getting to be on a show created by my friends! I’ve watched @darrencriss, @nicklanginsta, and Matt (not to mention Exec Producer, @rockerrick) put a lot of work into Royalties over the years, and it’s so nice to see it finally come to fruition. I googled “Illinois early vote”, and now I’m setting a reminder for Sept. 24!
Let’s talk about @wethepeopledetroit, a group in my home state of Michigan that is doing everything imaginable to support folks who have had their access to safe, clean water jeopardized or just shut off completely! Water access is a huge problem in some parts of Michigan (not news!), and over the past decade, the city of Detroit has been shutting off people’s water access to deal with their own budget problems. This disproportionately negatively effects Black communities. They have done the research on who these shut offs effect, and will literally bring water to those who have been cut off! I love this organization!

And educate yourself on the ways white supremacy is built into our society. It’s not very fun work, but if we learn the truth about our history, we can break the cycle and create a better tomorrow.
