yesterday, i had a severe allergic reaction to food (i’m owning it, alam kong bawal but i thought konti lamang won’t be bad)— bumagsak to 70/53 ang BP ko & expired na my EpiPen… couldn’t get a diphenhydramine shot because BP was too low… celestamine, a lot of water, and REST was our option.
i had refrained from posting pics of where we’re staying but the owner & staff have been so KIND- they helped move some of my stuff to the beachfront room because the fresh sea air would help me recover faster. Sweets are supposed to help pag may allergens pa sa katawan, so they sent me fresh baked buco pie & Check has been making me turon saging w/ langka. (na super favorite ko)… ang ulam siguro, after 3 days na pag na tanggal na sa katawan ko yung food allergens that i consumed.

From our 1st winter in Boston…
God greatly blessed me for that was the only time in my life i experienced what having a dad was really like. My mom told me i was lucky because my dad made time for me to truly get to know him (i was 1 year & 7 months old when he was imprisoned.) and he worked hard to win my love- i was the bunso that got the most & the best of him (maybe he had an inkling that we only had 3 years of borrowed time)- he went to all my school programs, went with my mom and charmed all the Sisters teaching in my school when it was time to get my report card, and we had monthly “just the 2 of us” book shopping and ice cream dates…
i know i’ve shared this story many times, when “Return of the Jedi” had its opening day, my dad patiently waited in line with me (almost 4 hours) so we could watch together. The local news was interviewing those in line & i was 1 of those chosen. My dad was so excited & since that was before cellphones, he left me & went home to tell my mom to please record the local news just in case i was chosen as part of the feature. Maybe even in 1983 they were already conscious about diversity, and my soundbite did air.
When we got home, and my dad & i watched the tape, it remains unforgettable for me the look of pride in his face. From my parents i have learned that the strength and resiliency of our children, and their determination to work hard to fulfill their ambitions will come from the love & encouragement they saw in the eyes of their parents. Thanks to my Dad for allowing me to believe that my dreams could & would come true, because looking back, ALMOST everything we ever discussed- they did come true. Isa na lang ang utang ko sa kanya…

this pandemic has taught me to express my LOVE while i still can.
i hadn’t even started “big school” when she was already working, so i benefited a lot because every payday there was a special treat for me. but looking back now it was really the gift of her time, all those Saturdays she generously gave me while growing up and our mom was already given the “privilege” of overnight prison visits with our dad.
up to now, she’s the person i can always open my heart to and never feel judged… she’s the one who never tires of praying for me, looking out for my sons & me, and most of all listening to me, guiding me, and giving me just so much unconditional & unquestioning love.
she is the one who tries her best to see the good in everything and everyone… and apart from my 2 sons, she is the ONE i want most to feel proud- because whatever good has managed to manifest in me, it’s because i have been blessed so much more than i could ever deserve for having been given my ATE.

Taken from our departure on May 8, 1980 for the 🇺🇸 for my dad’s triple heart bypass surgery followed by our 3 years in Boston. Opo, ganun ako ka “confident” na bata, at just 9 years old may “binibilin” ako sa Dad namin na mga dapat nyang gawin… marami nang nagsabi (my mom included) that i really took after my dad at ako ang female version nya… i have matured enough, would you believe i am now just 1 year younger than he was when he was assassinated in 1983, for me to realize i have so much more to learn: humility, self sacrifice, and the willingness to serve with every drop of my blood before i can truly be worthy of that compliment.
BUT i share with both my parents an unwavering LOVE for the Philippines and Filipinos, come what may, ano man ang pagsubok, mahal ko ang bayan natin at gagawin ko ang makakaya ko para tumulong sa kapwa para makabangon tayong muli. That is the best Father’s Day gift i can give Ninoy Aquino.
