Posted @withregram • @shamimsarif There are days when I feel you all will never love me for anything as much as for our first film #ICantThinkStraight. Here’s a behind the scenes still. It was a gruelling baptism by fire for me as a #director but I am forever appreciative that I got to work with @hananfkattan as producer, @aseematographer as DOP and @lisaraniray and @beneaththesheetz – lead actors who became family to us. And each day I get a message reminding me of what the story meant to so many people out there, especially women struggling with coming out in cultures where that is still taboo #storiesmatter #womenonfilm #filmmaking #womensupportingwomen #lgbtq🌈 #lesbianfilm

“Women get more beautiful as they grow older. Not less.
Female youth is only prized in modern culture because it doesn’t represent as much of a threat spiritually to anyone who is frightened of divine feminine power.
As women grow and mature, they call in stronger forces of sacred feminine wisdom. They vibrate with the creative power of their stories.
They are more of a force to be reckoned with.
They see more, know more, feel more. They put up with a lot less bullshit.
When women are trained into thinking there is something fundamentally wrong with getting older, and are coerced into spending money, energy and power investing in ‘slowing the signs of ageing’, an enormous vault of divine love is lost.
Just think what would happen if all the women in the world started loving themselves even more with every year that passed.
Perhaps a total revolution would occur.”

This @vaanibeswalcalcutta sari top in forest caught my eye. ‘Nirvik’ means fearless and bold and it’s the name of the 2020 launch collection of this bright new Kolkata based label designed around West Bengal handlooms. Sure it takes guts to stride towards fresh vision and to not break stride in birthing a brand in the middle of the year the earth paused. Thank you Vaani for reigniting #Nirvik and following your dream.

Singapore nights.
Softest, sweetest little kurtas arrived from @omaanajaipure carrying the touch and texture of home. It’s hard for us to not be able to travel to India for the foreseeable future (so much for OCI cards) so it’s special to contour cotton and fabric redolent of the sun and desert around us.
Bonus: mama and kids will be twinning like it’s a new faith we just discovered
So poignantly beautiful I had to share @rohitchawlaphotography_

Almost like a new book, but not. Paperback edition launched in India.

Great memories @itsmspreetatoyou
I’ve written about how an artsy, remote, quirky bohemian town in interior BC called Nelson, embodied everything I needed to heal after my stem cell transplant. So much so, at the end of my two week visit, I bought a house there. My intention at the time was to live a simple life, close to nature and community and write. Then, strong currents pulled me in another direction. If you’ve never stumbled onto a land that calls to your soul, you won’t understand my spontaneous purchase. But what appears accidental has always led me in the direction of celebration, authenticity and a safe harbour for my soul.
Oh, yes, this is Kootenay lake as seen by friends post a boat outing.

Repost from @abhiart using @RepostRegramApp – ” The Lost Light”
Mushaka: I feel lost, even though I chase the light, worship it…yet…i feel lost Oh! Ganesha.
I feel that nothing is ever enough,
I have more then enough food, no hunger, yet the desire to accumulate never goes away
I’ve lived a hundred years and yet the fear of death has not left me.
Why do I feel so lonely even though i’m surrounded by so many people.
Why do I feel envy when others succeed even though i’ve always been prosperous ?
Why do I lust for desire, even though everything in my life is opulent as ever ?
Oh!!! Kiritpara, one beyond any temptation…why do i feel such pangs in my soul ?…even though I worship the light.
Ganesha : To Worship alone is not enough…
…tell me, Oh! Mushaka, Little one.
The light which is in you…where is it ?
is it in your mind ? but then where is the mind.
is it in your heart ? because without Love there exists no heart.
is it in your soul ? Because then just like the soul you don’t own it.
When you think about light as yours, it becomes “Lost”
The light is always wanting to find it right place.
Even though this light lives in you, it’s cannot be seen by you…
unless…
you are ready to give it away in “Kindness”
…the eyes of mushak went moist, the tears ran down like rivers waiting to gush through eons of pain.
Light started to emanate from his tears, he could see now, he ran towards Ganesha and with all his might he lifted him up
Smiling like a weightless mountain he took a ride with the mushka around the cosmos…
Mushaka, gave so much light that day that the entire universe shimmered with Light.
Life is a festival to share and give this innate light, think of all the animals, birds, water, plants, abandoned souls, homeless and strays, your loved one’s and the one who taught you hard lessons…
Be Lit.
Be Jouyous.
Be Kind.
Be the Musahka to Ganeha.

Posted @withregram • @janicepariat Today, a wish that is simplest, that takes us back to what matters, yet slips past, what’s most easily forgotten: patience, simplicity, confidence. To take a breath and allow life to happen.
For Rilke reminds us, “It is always what I have already said: always the wish that you may find patience enough in yourself to endure, and simplicity enough to believe; that you may acquire more and more confidence in that which is difficult, and in your solitude among others. And for the rest, let life happen to you”

Repost from @attunetothemoon using @RepostRegramApp – Virgo 🌻🌾👑
⠀
As the sun moves, the energy shifts from boisterous Leo to studious Virgo, a movement from fire to earth and passion to purpose
⠀
It’s time to be practical, take stock of the details of our lives, harvest the wisdom we have gained so far and take actions that make a difference.
⠀
This Virgo season holds
🌕the Full Moon in Pisces
💥the start of a potent and transformative Mars Retrograde
⚜️the conclusion of Jupiter retrograde and
🌑the New Moon in Virgo.
⠀
Plus, in Virgo, all of the players in Capricorn are a little softer on us all. 🥵🥴
⠀
All in perfect order for a potent and polite progression forward in productivity and purpose. The key: simple thought, present action.
⠀
Meant to be a helpful time, use it to your advantage by considering how you can be of service, transforming your routines into rituals and switching up your superfoods for the changing season.
⠀
Your efforts to organize now will put you ahead in battles waged later.
⠀
Inquiry:
How can you up-level your rituals so that you can ensure you are honoring yourself and your needs daily?
In what ways are you held back by worry and overthink?

Congratulations @parmeshshahani
This is the opus on inclusion in India we’ve been waiting for. It’s exhaustive and nuanced and written in such engaging language.
I particularly love the deep dive into identity politics and the diverse history of the LGBTQ community in India.
Soaking it in my friend. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in relentless pursuit of sparking conversation around inclusion and the queer community.

Current reads.
Thanks @shamimsarif for the reco.
(Personally I think it’s appropriate to juxtapose the HBR with this wonderful novel of a soulful, sassy heroine turning up at Harvard for her first term)
And sorry, but I have to call out these learning institutions that mould students into greedy little oligarchs for decades then pivot when convenient to shrug off the aftertaste of their own teachings with headlines like ‘Where People Management went Wrong’. Such hypocrisy.
‘Forget resilience, it’s all about coddiwompling,’ says @Lisaraniray, who paints us an alternate picture of how to go about our lives during this topsy-turvy time.

Posted @withregram • @ilareddy Just finished this honest, beautiful memoir by @lisaraniray My knowledge of showbiz is minimal and I only knew her from the movie ‘Water’, but I’ve been seeing reviews of the book by a few writers I like and I thought I’d read it ‘someday’. My curiosity peaked when I heard her describe herself as a writer first and then an accidental actor on @boundpodcasts
I was pleasantly surprised by her writing and closely related to some of her experiences (tryst with buddhism, emotional eating, imposter syndrome, introversion). At the same time, I couldn’t relate to some others, and occasionally got bored in the bits about Bollywood. What I enjoyed the most were her memories from childhood, and the fact that she let the book be so raw and unabashedly herself.
I’ve read quite a few cancer memoirs growing up (let’s just say it was a teenage phase) but when it got too real (after losing several friends and relatives to cancer) I limited the books I picked up on the topic. Lisa’s approach towards her illness and becoming a ‘cancer graduate’ is inspiring (and refreshingly different from what I’ve read before)- but this makes up a very small part of the book- which in itself is a reiteration that this experience isn’t what defines her life 🙌🏼
It’s hard to review a book as just a book when it’s an autobiography/memoir, given that everyone’s life experiences and takeaways from it are so personal and contextual. Suffices to say that this book is worth a read and layered with nuggets of wisdom drawn from real life experiences- giving me enough food for thought for a Friday night.
