Stick with me here… few days ago george and I out adventuring… and found this humongous moth “butterfly” in princess terms. Took some pics because I’ve never seen anything like it… ran home… googled. It’s a cecropia moth. Biggest moth in North America. Cool. Well… it was on a rock, we let it be… for about 10 hours, kept going back and checking on it… it didn’t move. A storm was rolling in… so george and I collected it in a big box and took her home. My feeling was… it was done. Just gonna get eaten by a big bird since it wasn’t moving… and George wanted to cuddle it. Anyway… home. Hil decided to open up lid of box that night… 3 days ago… in house. After all, where could it go? This morning I found it. One of hils bday gifts… LAYING EGGS. It’s been laying eggs for at least two days. In process of collecting… gonna stash in places they have a shot at hatching… meanwhile, we’ve learned… laying eggs is the last act of this beauty… so… as she flies around the house… from flowers to silverware drawers… to gift baskets… we will follow. But, CRAZY RIGHT?!?! In case you’re wondering… george named her… “beauful buttfy!” And yes… exclamation point is part of it. Anyway… never a dull moment. Now we have a pet moth. Living in the house.
