대학 농구부 감독과 선수로 만났지만 그보다 무한히 더 큰 가르침을 주셨던 장갑진 선생님은 참전 용사이시다.
누구보다 농구를 사랑하셨고 누구보다 나라를 위하셨던 선생님은 실제로 한국전쟁에서 나라를 위해 싸우시고 전쟁이 끝나자마자 농구 재건을 위해 앞장 서셨다. 그리고 전쟁 중의 공로를 인정 받아 국립대전현충원에서 영면에 드셨다.
나의 스승님, 나의 감독님, 나의 할아버지.
625전쟁 70주년을 맞아 다시 한 번 선생님이 주셨던 교훈들을 되새겨본다. “이기는 것보다 더 중요한 건 최선을 다 해 싸우고, 지더라도 멋있게 지는 거야! 열심으로 부딪혀 봐라!” 감사합니다 선생님. 보고 싶습니다.
자유대한민국을 지켜주신, 그리고 지키고 계시는 모든 군인장병분들께 감사드립니다. 당신이 영웅입니다.

A person who loved his country and basketball so much, fought in the Korean war and as soon as the war stopped, he fought again to rebuild the basketball community in Korea. “Winning is important, but doing your best and losing with dignity is more crucial. Now go out there and earn it!” Miss you so much sir.
