Back to the music till I see you again…
My long time collaborator and friend @masaaki_sato_ made this kimono for me out of about 5 different vintage kimonos for my performance with @wagakkiband. He called his dad Hiromasa, who lives in Matsumoto City, Japan, to source the materials for the project by going to vintage shops, sending photos of kimonos and then mailing the ones we chose to Masa in NY. Masa took them apart and sewed them back together into one awesome “Frankenmono!” Thank you Masaaki and Hiromasa for this unique and beautiful work of art ❤️
Happy birthday, Robby. I miss you every day. As sad as it makes me that you’re gone, I hope you know that remembering you means smiling. You were hilarious- always making us laugh, always focusing on the comedy, always looking “on the bright side of life” to quote your Monty Python fav. We took this photo right after a Tenacious D show in 2013 where we sang (no exaggeration) EVERY WORD (which you can see we are still doing in the second pic) 😆 One of the best nights of our lives! I love you forever.

The last time I got on a plane was in February, when Wagakkiband invited me to Osaka to perform with them in a very special concert featuring a full orchestra. For those of you who don’t know their music, they mix traditional Japanese instruments with hard rock to create an epic fusion that is totally unique. Yuko is a fantastic singer and the whole concert was mesmerizing to watch. I joined onstage for a Wagakkiband version of Bring Me To Life, as well as a bit of their song “Senbonzakura” which was my first time singing in Japanese. On the trip, we also wrote a song together that will be on their new album, “TOKYO SINGING,” out 10.24. The deluxe package of the album includes a DVD of the full concert, which you can see a clip of at the link in bio.
Missing my friends watching this! Can’t wait to perform “Sakura Rising” together someday!
