Samyuktha Hegde Instagram – Wishing you and your family a very happy and prosperous Deepavali

Also DID YOU KNOW?
Fact check about deepawali and bursting crackers, (considering so many of you wrote back to that story)

Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance

First, let’s go back to the origin of this festival. Deepavali, literally means a row of lights/lamps. It’s celebrated as it is believed that on this day Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana and completing his 14 years of exile. To mark the joyous occasion, the citizens of Ayodhya decorated the entire city with the earthen lamps to signify the victory of light over darkness.
But there is no proof that people of Ayodhya had burnt fireworks on the arrival of Lord Ram.

During the 13-14th century China saw a potential business idea of firecrackers and started the supply to other countries but soon to cater to the rising demand in the domestic market in the early 19th century, Das Gupta set up the first Indian fireworks factory in Kolkata. By the early 20th century, the industry shifted it’s base to Sivakasi (Tamil Nadu).

Over time, bursting crackers assumed religious significance of symbolizing the victory of good over evil and got tagged along with Diwali. This later gained immense popularity because of the great marketing!
BURSTING CRACKERS WERE NEVER PART OF THE ORIGINAL TRADITION, AND THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY ” 0 ” BENEFITS OF IT
From its inception to its destruction it only causes harm
Our previous generations blindly believed in a lot of things, because they were scared and it took a lot more than posting on instagram to educate even a small crowd
So hopefully we’ll do better!
