A great teacher of artists, Kristin Linklater, has died. She gave us so much including the following thought, so pertinent to now: “…the purpose of growing as a human being must be to look at and listen to the whole human condition with increased understanding and compassion, and, in the case of the artist, to shed an ever brighter light on the causes of humanity’s more egregious errors.” ~ Kristin Linklater, “Thoughts on Theatre, Therapy, and the Art of Voice”

This week, @AlvinAiley All Access is streaming “A Hymn for Alvin Ailey.” To make the piece “Hymn,” back in 1993, I interviewed members of the Ailey Company about Mr. Ailey’s life and work. The words they shared with me were woven into a dance, choreographed by Judith Jamison. Orlando Bagwell’s documentary film takes you behind the scenes of Mr. Ailey’s life and the making of the ballet. Watch it this evening, Thursday, June 25th beginning at 7pm – on Ailey’s Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube pages: AlvinAiley.org/AileyAllAccess. The film will be available to stream for the next week.
