We are so ready to kiss this year good-bye! We now have hope for the vaccine, for a great and decent presidency, for the ongoing work to make our world a more just and inspirational place for all. My Egyptian yogi says the pandemic year has taught us Steadfastness, Patience and Surrender. How true! I would add one more: Gratitude. Onward to a brighter 2021! @robertrosenkranz #gratitude #newyearseve #newyear #2020 #2021 #biglove
America bursts into JOY! Thank you Amy for this video from Wall Street NOW. Listen to the cries of joy, the cries of empathy, the cries of promise for a more beautiful America. 💥🇺🇸❤️🎉 #election2020 #bidenharris2020 #presidentbiden #joy #usa
The fallen, fragmented, corrupted Statue of Liberty, as imagined by Danh Vo in his iconic work, We The People. Today this work brings new sorrow. Friends from all over the world reached out to me today – from Egypt, Lebanon, Brazil, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Korea – aghast at the scenes at the Capitol. Trump incites mob attack in the most symbolic citadel of democracy during the most solemn government ceremony. They feel betrayed by the erosion and now spectacular ruin of the democratic values America stood for in the world, for the world. They worry what power this heinous example will give to the terrifying autocracies many of them fight against each day. The international consequences will take decades to repair. For now, impeach, invoke the 25th, or lock him up! This man, his family and his militia must be charged for sedition, insurrection and obstruction of peaceful transfer of power. Now, we must keep faith in Biden and Kamala, celebrate the Senate majority, and help this volatile nation heal. #invokethe25thamendment #impeachtrump #insurrection #stormingthecapitol #bidenharris2020 #hopeforthefuture #danhvo
I thank Rashid Johnson for my first live studio visit in five months! Here he stands before one of his amazing new works, where he paints “anxiety” in a blood red of his own manufacture. He calls these marks “traffic”, sees the grid of ovals as faces, and includes a date in each title, to mark the identity of this historic time. He wears Ai Weiwei MASK. @rashidjohnson @guggenheim @hauserwirth #anxiety #artinthetimeofcovid @aiww #aiweiweimask #gratitude

A stroke of brilliance! Yoko’s banners on the Met’s facade announce and command the spirit of this precarious age: DREAM TOGETHER. “When we dream together, we create a new reality. Each one of us has the power to change the world. Remember love. DREAM TOGETHER.” @yokoono @metmuseum @imaginepeacetower #imagine #dreamtogether #yokoono #yesyokoono #iloveyou @max.hollein
My brain has been starved for art and for Guggenheim’s magic. We are re-opening after seven months! Come see Pollock’s “Mural,” his largest painting ever, on view in NYC for the first time in 20 years. Time to think about ART.
Today we mourn the passing of artist, weaver, gardener, and visionary Jack Lenor Larsen, who created magical and intelligent beauty in all he did. A great master and innovator of Modern design, he drew from his travels across Asia and Africa and worked with artisans in over 30 countries, preserving weaving and dying techniques that would otherwise have been lost to time and machines. And then there was LongHouse, the extraordinary environment he created with his love Peter Olsen over the last 30 years. There they staged Bill T Jones dances, Laurie Anderson concerts, Yoko Ono installations all outside in the gardens which Jack would constantly recreate. He was my great friend and mentor, an inspiration, an incarnation of profound, imaginative and capacious humanity. We used to spend Christmas together. This year, we pray for the lasting and vital legacy of LongHouse. Land, Place, Spirit. @longhousereserve #jacklenorlarsen #longhouse #easthampton #modern #design #christmas2020 #beauty #gardens #mourning #legacy
From Susan Glasser @newyorkermag From Susan Glasser’s NYer piece today : Saturday, however, is different. Saturday is Joe Biden’s day. It is a day for celebrating. It is the Death Star being blown up. It is, finally, the end of the horror movie. The fact that there is always another Death Star, always another sequel in which the bad guy reappears, is a worry for another time. There will be many weeks and months and years to argue over what happened in America that made Donald Trump the President, and why. For now, it is enough to know that he is going, and soon. Donald Trump is a loser, and America, even if it was a very close call, has won. @newyorkermag #election2020 #bidenharris2020 #hope #america
Deana Lawson is the winner of the 2020 Hugo Boss Prize! She is the first photographer to win this prize, which was founded in the late 1990s. We look forward to her show @guggenheim in 2021. Zadie Smith once wrote of Lawson’s photography, “Black people are not conceived as victims, social problems, or exotics but, rather, as what Lawson calls ‘creative, godlike beings’ who do not ‘know how miraculous we are.’” #guggenheim #hugoboss #hugobossprize2020 #miraculous

Distinguished scholar Xu Zhangrun was detained this week in Beijing. I had just mentioned him in my @artnet interview, recommending his erudite critique as the most cogent analysis of China today. On top of Hong Kong news, this disappearance does not bode well for human rights in China. @penamerica #xuzhangrun #internationalnews #hongkong #china #tsinghuauniversity
Its 70 degrees in NYC in November. Its viscous Covid time, hours melting away. And we are waiting through thousands of minutes for the election returns. I am having a DALI DAY. #theperaistenceofmemory #election2020 #covid_19 #dali

In Harlem last night with Fiona, kids boogie on the streets in joy. Listen and dance with us! Finally, children can grow up in a culture of American presidential leadership that inspires hope and possibility, equality and justice, and one that promotes faith in science. I pray for and rejoice with the children. #bidenharris2020 #joy #election2020 #newyorkcity #justice #endofanerror #kids #girlpower

Cao Fei’s Whose Utopia on view at the new MoMA! @robertasmithnyt reviews the second reshuffle of MoMA’s permanent collection, and cites Cao Fei, Lee Ufan and Gutai as highlights of the curators’ “philosophical reorientation that broadens its focus to a global, rather than just Western, history of modern art.” For those of us at the forefront of this campaign over the last 30 years, we celebrate this brilliant reset at the temple of modern art. Ai Weiwei MASK has raised over $1.4 million from its month-long campaign to sell hand-printed face masks – the most raised on eBay for Charity as a single art campaign – and sold over 22,000 artworks to people from 40 countries. The funds are to benefit the COVID-19 emergency humanitarian and human rights efforts led by Human Rights Watch, Refugees International, and Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF). For Ai Weiwei, the campaign does not stop here. Marginalized groups around the world continue to be disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. We must seize this historic moment to push for bold, transformative change to ensure no groups are left behind as the virus spreads. Please join Ai Weiwei in his awareness campaign by posting your Ai Weiwei MASK on social media with #aiweiweimask #oneformany Ai Weiwei: “No will is too small. No act is too helpless.” Twitter: @aiww, Instagram: @aiww #aiweiweimask #oneformany #HumanRightsWatch #Doctorswithoutborders #RefugeesInternational
