Kids are hazardous to your health.
And that’s all I’m going to say.
Christmas looked very different one year ago. While we are enjoying our first genuinely white Xmas in years, nostalgia for friends, for warm breezes, for Goa and for a pre-pandemic world has caught me unawares. And so I share these images with you, with a wish you may always wring drops of happiness from life and mobilise the best (and sassiest) parts of your nature when called.

Where would we be in 2020 without kaftans? Thanks @theboozybutton for the perfect festive season kaftan to loll about this 🎄

SNOWBALL FIGHT
Thank you @christine.chitnis and @theboozybutton for evoking the textures of India on our year long sabbatical on the other side of the world.
Thanks @thejosiehotel
Did we ski?
No, sir.
For the most part we sat in a warm, contented daze by the picture windows @thevelvetrestaurant watching others take on the slopes, discussing how we MUST strap on our skis NEXT TIME because we were too ecstatic to have a night off from parenting to do anything but gloat over cocktails.

‘It is the land thy carries our suffering when we die. It is the land that remains the same no matter what we call ourselves. Only soil will remember who we are, nothing but earth is strong enough to withstand the burden of memory. To become unknown, it is not enough to shift a name, one must go to where the land has always been a stranger to those who share your blood.’

Exchanging a sagging, slowly melting snow person for sweet memories.
The gift of my life, is my correspondence with my friend, author, artist and professional retreater @thepostcarder
I feel compelled to share – because wit and wisdom should not be hoarded- what he wrote to me today:
‘Make more snowmen – they are proof that we can make art out of nothing, and that everything beautiful we do ultimately melts into oblivion.’
Eduardo – the gender fluid snow person- and us, wish you all a hopeful, resilient, love filled 2021.
(Hooey, adds the snow person in snow speak)
These freshly unwrapped books are a fireside hit. Special thanks to @h.i.m.a.d.r.i and @nehapartimatiyani
Posted @withregram • @barb_godfrey I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions but I really have missed picking up a book and getting lost in a story. So on Jan 1 book 1 will be Close To The Bone by @lisaraniray. Lisa I’m so excited to dive in to your story. I can’t wait until we can see each other in person again!! Everyone please order a copy now. #doubledaycanada #penguinrandomhouse @doubledayca
Posted @withregram • @_.fast_and_the_curious_ This is a raw, wise, and juicy account of a life I had no clue about. I knew of Lisa as just a model before reading this. But now I see her as a bonafide writer (her vocabulary and expressions are so rich!), a wild spirit, a grounded humanist, and a beautiful spiritual being. She is as good a writer as beautiful a model. In fact better, if I may say so.

This year I do not want
the dark to leave me.
I need its wrap
of silent stillness,
its cloak
of long lasting embrace.
Too much light
has pulled me away
from the chamber
of gestation.
Let the dawns
come late,
let the sunsets
arrive early,
let the evenings
extend themselves
while I lean into
the abyss of my being.
Let me lie in the cave
of my soul,
for too much light
blinds me,
steals the source
of revelation.
Let me seek solace
in the empty places
of winter’s passage,
those vast dark nights
that never fail to shelter me.
Thank you to my Dharma Mama for sharing this with me ❄️💜❄️

To yodel: a gathering and expulsion of all your desires and disappointments, preferably loud enough to startle.
2021 is already looking brighter with the upcoming publication of @tishanidoshi latest poetry collection. I will be swallowing it whole 🙏🏼

When crooked houses and silent wells of hopelessness blur my vision, it’s words, the elation of communication that save me. There’s nothing sunlit and dewy about it. It’s simply that books, ideas, writing saves me from myself.
#Betweentheworldandme written as a letter from a father to a son in an attempt to make sense of blatant racial injustice in America is my first @audible listen of 2021. I can feel myself melting.
I’ve never felt strongly tethered to the planet, even less so now. I’ve grown a little too fond of sitting on the couch reading, without vouching for my presence in the world in any significant way. The snow is drifting aimlessly towards the earth, Peppa Pig drones on somewhere in the background and I’d prefer to dim the outside world for some time.
‘But race is the child of racism, not the father. And the process of naming “the people” has never been a matter of genealogy and physiognomy so much as one of hierarchy. Difference in hue and hair is old. But the belief in the preeminence of hue and hair, the notion that these factors can correctly organize a society and that they signify deeper attributes, which are indelible—this is the new idea at the heart of these new people who have been brought up hopelessly, tragically, deceitfully, to believe that they are white.’
– Ta-Nehisi Coates
