So my third yearly mashup in 2018 was a bit of a challenging project (what say @harikanthgunamagari :p). I had the support of @vikram.tnr @tnr.group in upping the production value this time around. I also wanted to feature some playback singers whose songs were hits in that year! This was probably my favorite part of this project 🙂

I had worked on Arupu that year with @harikanthgunamagari & @kalamediaworks and I knew that I wanted to work with them for this project. This was the first time I had an actual crew consisting of more than 3 people, a shot list, various departments, etc. I felt like I was on a movie set and this shoot lasted a grueling continuous 15 hours. It was a bit hellish in retrospect but thank you Harikanth for sticking through it 😂 After a roller coaster ride of emotions, we were able to finish it.

I have wanted to do an original for quite some time now (maybe too long) but I wanted to make sure it was right & intentional to do so. An original is a way of expressing yourself & sharing a piece of you to an audience.I wrote this during the height of the pandemic when everything was uncertain – when everyone was sitting at home questioning every single move or decision they’ve made in the past (at least I was). I came to the conclusion however that despite the uncertainty, all these small or big decisions were mine alone & no one can take that away from me. There is beauty & power in ownership of these moves – positive or negative & that’s enough for me ☺️

4 days to go for my big announcement 👀 Here’s a little throwback to my first yearly mashup from 4 years ago 🙊 I still vividly remember how I got this idea to do a yearly mashup of as many 2016 Telugu songs as possible and I immediately asked @karthikrodriguez to work on it. We wanted it to be a dynamic mashup (not a medley) with as many songs as possible while still sounding like 1 song. I had done a short film called Coffee Shop Love Stories directed by @hareesh__naagaraj & he also immediately put a setup together for the video. Naalo Thapana B-Reel #3: I wanted the song to be half in Telugu and half in English – this felt appropriate. It’s definitely something a little different but I felt it was true to myself & my identity. Thank you @kittuvissapragada for fixing & rewriting my Telugu lyrics :p
After completing the music with @robbierosenlive there was still something I was unsure about. For 2 months, I didn’t touch the song & finally on September 1st, I gave myself a deadline until October 1st. I told myself to either finish the song by then or just screw it. I tried everyday until somehow I cracked it on September 30th – I kid you not, I’m not making this up! Weird, right? I was getting ready to delete it 🤷🏻♀️

Naalo Thapana B-Reel #4: I always thought I was lucky to be associated with Arupu, which was an incredible project to be a part of. So I felt very honored to have the same director & producer, @harikanthgunamagari & @sunielg garu, as key members for #NaaloThapana
I usually approach a video with some sort of idea in my head but this is the first time where I showed up empty handed & said to Harikanth – “you think of something” (which is very hard for me to do). The teaser showed a few glimpses of it, but there are some beautiful layers running throughout. You just have to wait to see the full video to watch Harikanth’s brilliance 🤷🏻♀️
I can’t be more thankful for Suniel garu who honestly didn’t even properly listen to the song or concept before immediately hopping on board – he just trusted it. Hard to come by such people 🙏🏻
