Thank you @mona_shroff_jewellery for sending this all way from my former home, Hong Kong. A beautifully versatile piece, ready to pair with my track suit as well as my favourite kurta, though today I needed to air out my skin. Not used to wearing so many layers.

“I’ll reserve my judgement on the movie and wait to see the reaction it evokes! It has Aftab Shivdasani and is a suspense thriller. My character is a modern, progressive and career-oriented woman, a role that is rarely portrayed by the female protagonist in Hindi movies. I feel it’s quite challenging and demanding and has tremendous scope. We finished a few schedules and it has been a wonderful experience! I’m this enthusiastic about something after quite a while! It feels all the better because it’s my first time! I always believe that the first time while doing anything feels the best! After that it gets repetitive.
I’m having an absolute blast with Kasoor! I feel charged and focused. I’m pushing myself professionally after a long while. There’s a high when I’m doing something that involves discipline and professionalism and, at the same time, combines fun and informality. That’s what Kasoor is all about — everyone is very serious when it comes to work but the general atmosphere is so congenial that it barely feels like work!”

Nothing particularly interesting to say. I’m leaving it all for the page (second book in progress and that’s more than enough pressure)
I do, however, want to share that I play 80s New Wave and let my clothes do the talking when the kids are away and I am surrounded by the shrapnel and sum of my present: art, toddler potties and a neon heart.

Posted @withregram • @artmusings99 1 day to go… opens tomorrow – All day preview ‘Reincarnate: We meet here in the Afterlife’, a solo exhibition by Shilo Shiv Suleman at Art Musings.
For the MGW 14-17 Jan, the gallery will be open daily between 12 to 8pm. Since the number of visitors is restricted, we request you to call in and book a slot. RSVP is mandatory.
Says Suleman, “2020 was a death and resurrection, but our worlds have ended so many times and begun again. Our myths and monuments are testament to the ever living- bodies that turn into gardens, civilizations that live beneath the shifting sands of empires, lovers’ tombs overgrown with ivy, flood myths and end of the world stories. Every incarnation is meant to serve a cosmic purpose.
As we meet (here) in the afterlife, what fulfilment will our reincarnating stories find?”
What’s not to love about this big bellied, satisfying adaptation of The White Tiger.

This is my personal ‘Tara’, who has graced my life with her loving presence, her music, her wicked wit snd wisdom and kinship. If you have read #closetothebone you know the book ends with the lyrics of a song she wrote. I’m brought to happy tears every time I hear them and her haunting voice in my head.
Posted @withregram • @taramacleanmusic I have loved @lisaraniray since the first moment I met her by the pool in India. I was dripping with baby girls and sweat and there she was, beaming her luminous smile at me and I fell in love. We have been inner circle sisters since that moment and have seen each other through so much. This book is exquisite. Her writing is unbelievable and the story…I won’t try to put words to it, just read them for yourself. I am so honoured to know her, and as she says in her book, we belong to each other. That’s next level love right there. There are few human beings as brave, as brilliant and as beautiful in every way as Rani. #closetothebone #lisaray #cancergraduate #inseperable @doubledayca

If we merge mercy with might,

Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest,
we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one”

I once met a Sufi (probably back from playing lawn tennis) lost in conversation with an NRI from London, a sleeping man (perhaps resting before starting a tiring day), a chai wala and two lovers on bandstand. Nothing extraordinary just the things that happen in Bombay! Nothing dividing them in that moment, just them combined by human spirit.
This painting is my effort to create a visual metaphor inspired by the first morning on bandstand when I last visited Bombay. I kept hearing the sound of crows cawing mixed with the sound of gentle morning breeze coming from the sea while painting this—can you hear what I’m talking about? you can probably smell it too if you have ever been to bandstand in the morning!
Print releasing soon in my online shop.
Posted @withregram • @aparna_bhattachatya I finished the book ‘Close to the Bone’ a few days back. It was one of the most satisfying reads in a long time. I say ‘satisfying’ because there was so much of honesty in the writing. The life journey is written without any inhibitions and it shows how we make the choices in our life, mostly impulsively and by chance. And in the end we realise that we need to make our choices consciously. It is only then that we realise our real purpose. It was a bare all; something which is rare to find now. ‘Satisfying’ again because it is the story of a ‘Cancer Graduate’; a term coined by the author, of a person who is living her life on her own terms; living and learning from all the complex experiences in it.
The book resonated with me, especially the later part of the book, as I could identify patterns of life decisions and how we need to make transformational changes in the process of our healing. Being treated for cancer made me realise that being true to oneself is the essence of life. That lays the path for all decisions and we are able to carve the way. My journey with the book was indeed a self-discovery. Thank you for this book @lisaraniray

Rithika Merchant’s ‘Birth of a New World’ opens this Thursday, just in time for @mumbai_gallery_weekend 2021!
In this new series of watercolours and collages, @rithikamerchant focuses on the contemporary moment. With nature continuing to play a vital role in her works, Rithika invites us to ponder the age-old questions of what is deemed worthy of saving and how do we strike a balance? Is there a possibility of a utopia or are we chasing after the unattainable? What will we take with us and what gets left behind?

#ShahziaSikander. The Singing Spheres, 2016. Artist and #MaharamCollaborator Shahzia Sikander uses techniques associated with Indo-Persian miniature painting to create layered, complex narratives. Her contribution to #MaharamDigitalProjects, pictured here, is composed of hundreds of small icons made from feminine hairdos extracted from the female gopis — traditional worshipers of the Hindu god Krishna. The spherical #hair function as a moving particle system bringing to light the kinetic possibilities of the female singular inhabiting the feminine collective #MaharamLikes #animation #shahziasikander #digitalart #light #projections #femalenarratives #womeninarthistory
