We’ve come a long way this wig and I. @_staciemerriman came along and showed us how its done. #CinchedandSecured #LAIDHUNTY 🕊

If we all cared more about the health of our planet & all the people on it than our own “sides” we might find we agree on so many things.
If we took the time to actually listen, we could grow to understand each other & practice the humility it takes to see our own blind spots. Our ignorant spots. Our privileged spots.
So instead, some of us are made to feel afraid to lose our right to choose what’s best for our bodies, afraid we’re taking for granted & ruining the only planet we have, afraid of losing accessible & affordable health care. Others are afraid of not being protected or recognized under the law because of who they love. Too many are afraid of being lynched with impunity, for far too long, because of the color of their skin.
We’re a country in pain with deep historical wounds and it’s manifested itself into a collective depression and rage. A pain brushed under the rug for so long and now we finally have to face it.
The last four years has shown us how much work we have to do. We deserved this President. We deserved to look in the mirror and see the hurt we’ve ignored and neglected. Trauma stimulates a need for growth. Our country and our planet need us to grow up. To wake up.
To do this, and I believe, we need a leader who is decent – who reflects on their own pain and is capable of deep empathy and compassion for all Americans, not just those who vote for them. One who believes in science and can help us all cope and navigate our way through a global health crisis.
A leader who has sat at the table and has the experience to make informed and difficult decisions. One who can respond to international events with the nuance the world needs.
I believe Trump has served his purpose and forced us to face the true reality of our divisions and systemic failures, and now it’s up to us to take a deep breath and get our collective shit together.
No candidate is ever perfect, but I trust Joe Biden’s heart and I trust he will surround himself with the right people. I believe we have the ability to right this course and do the hard work if we have the right guidance at the helm, and that is why I will be voting for Biden / Harris. I hope you’ll do the same.
I realize the louder we are, the more we may fall on deaf ears and galvanize enthusiastic compassion and support for the Brainwasher-Who-Preys-on-the-Most-in-Need-in-Chief. That even his being literally impeached somehow garnered more support for him is extremely disheartening. I know we think the right was tricked into thinking he actually cares about anyone other than himself and the 1% and the right thinks we’re all brainwashed by leftest propaganda. He’s convinced you that the stakes are that the other side is out to destroy you and your way of life and he is here to protect you. He is not. He has turned us into a country that is turning on itself. There is no denying that his policies are not in anyone’s best interest but corporations and authoritarian foreign leaders. Trying to overturn the ACA and take away health insurance after the election from millions of people during a pandemic in which he’s presided over the avoidable deaths of 225K and counting doesn’t feel very Pro-life to me. His policies that affect our climate, immigrants and refugees, the future opportunities of communities of color and the voiceless — make this election about humanity so much more than taxes and politics. Please, I ask you to vote with awareness and compassion for others in addition to yourself. #BidenHarris2020

Every morning after breakfast he waits for his friends to take him to the park.
Day 7 of 14.
Quarantine in Toronto.
Now and then when I find myself forgetting to celebrate life, unmindful of the way embracing death can heighten and enhance the way I interact with the world, I take time to think about whether I would be at peace knowing that I left someone without saying what’s in my heart. I try daily to learn to leave folks as though we might never be meeting again. This practice makes us change how we talk and interact.
It is a way to live consciously.

I meditate so my actions arise from the wisdom of heart – Mahatma Gandhi
The farther I get away from my meditation practice, the more reactive and restless I become. The more impatient, irritable and emotional I can be. The harder it becomes for me to give someone the benefit of the doubt. To assume their best intentions. I put my dukes up ready to defend when there is no fight. To see the truth and what actually might be happening in a moment.
I’m so grateful for my job. I’m also keenly aware that being on location away from home in another country during a pandemic without the option to visit home on a weekend…is a challenge.
This scenario along with the news going on back home in the midst of one of the most consequential elections of our lives accompanied by any other challenge you might find yourself in has the potential to cripple you if we don’t remain mindful and pause. To take a moment to be still and breathe.
How do we come back when we feel big threats, anxiety and / or wanting something to be different.
In between the stimulus and the response,
there is a space. And in that space is your power and your freedom. Stop racing. Stop the spinning wheel.
Come to rest. Access the space of inner ease which effects all that we touch.
Move from reactivity to the space of non-judging balanced presence. Shift from reactivity to presence that allows us to respond from the best of who we are.
This meditation helped remind me of these things should you find yourself in a similar cluttered space of resistance.

I love this piece of music by Nicholas Britell from If Beale Street Could Talk so much.
So much so that I’ll sometimes let it repeat on a loop for hours. You should try it.
It soothes the soul.
