Saddened tonight to hear of the passing of a legend…and a grandma. Cloris Leachman was Ida, Lou’s’ mom on Malcolm in the Middle. Jane and I adored her superb talent and fun spirit. She was a slice of sweet potato pie – check that, just sweet potato…sliding off your face during a Malcolm food fight! You are already missed, you great broad, you.

Today, as we witnessed history being made, we have an opportunity as Americans to come together and start the healing process from the damage inflicted upon our society. With hard work and cooperation we can erase the distrust in our electoral system, the news media, and our government. Our own political ideology shouldn’t create enemies out of our fellow citizens that may disagree with our point of view. Intellectual challenges serve to strengthen our ideals, not weaken them. So, express your feelings and share your thoughts, be kind and respectful, and have faith. Better days are ahead. And it started today.

Feeling very grateful this morning receiving a Golden Globes nomination for Your Honor. My characters seem to be filled with tremendous consternation and bad decision making… very relieved not to have that in my real life. Head down – do the work – hope for the best.
2020…Well, that was weird.
I just wanted to reach out to wish you all a very Happy New Year – I was going to do it on the 1st, but, hey, it’s been that kind of year. We all need a break.
Through the pandemic that still pervades our lives, to the political vitriol from both sides that gets on our nerves, to epic fires and earthquakes and a record number of hurricanes… come on, enough already!
But I honestly believe that better days are ahead of us. We’re tough. We’re resilient. And we have Netflix.
I hope that you and your family are well, and I mean that in more ways than just physical. I hope you have found a way to navigate through these choppy waters with your emotions, your sanity, and your spirit in good shape. At least as good as possible. Can’t ask for more than that. Be positive, well, not on your covid test – on that it’s good to be negative. Anyway, I’m rambling now.

I’m reeling now from another Acting Legend passing today. When Carell, Fishburne, and myself met and worked with Cicely Tyson on Richard Linklater’s, Last Flag Flying, we felt like school boys in the presence of a great teacher…and we were. Ms. Tyson, as we all called her, brought her grace and elegant talent to work every day. Rest now, Ms Tyson, the theater is dark tonight.
It’s nearly the weekend, right? I like a bit of spice with my @doshombres margarita. Let me know if you’re brave enough to try…
DH Margarita
1.5oz. Dos Hombres Mezcal
3/4oz. Agave Syrup
3/4oz. Lime Juice
3/4oz. Roasted Poblano Puree
Pinch of Salt
Add all ingredients to a shaker tin filled with ice, shake vigorously, double strain over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel and *optional smoked rosemary sprig.
*Roasted Poblano Puree: High flame on gas stove. Add poblano directly over flame, allow skin to bubble and blacken (2-3 min on each side), flip every few minutes, DO NOT allow to catch fire or turn to white ash, remove charred poblano and place in a small ice bath to cool, remove skin and discard, cut to remove stem, seeds and ribs; add to food processor, pulse until smooth.
*Smoked Rosemary: Carefully smoke the end of rosemary sprig with a kitchen torch and blow out after a few seconds for extra essence.

I have had this Hank Aaron (replica) jersey hanging in my house for years. 11 members of the 500 home run club signed it. I stared at it thinking of Hammerin’ Hank on this day that he passed. Rest now, sir, you will always be the home run king to me.
