Despite its striking colors, Peters’s #Twinspot (#Hypargos niveoguttatus) in East #Africa is shy, inconspicuous and hard to see. After searching the forest edges and understory in Tanzania for days, and getting a few flight views, I finally managed to photograph this beautiful male.
Göz alan renklerine rağmen, Al Yüzlü Çiftbenek (Hypargos niveoguttatus) çekingen, iyi saklanan ve zor görülen bir kuş türüdür. Tanzania’da orman kenarlarını ve altını günlerce arayıp sadece uçarken gördükten sonra en sonunda bu muhteşem erkeği fotoğraflayabildim.

A coyote probably hunting a rodent was caught in our camera trap in the Red Butte Canyon Research Natural Area behind @uutah. In our new paper I link to in my Instagram bio, with @aust.green @mchynoweth and @davidblount, we reviewed the entire camera trap scientific literature of 3326 papers since 1993. COVID-19 has shown even more how important camera traps are for wildlife conservation, research and management.

Tinamuları görmek çok zordur ve soyu tehlikede olan Kara Tinamu, görmesi en zor tinamu türlerindendir. Tinamular sadece Neotropik bölgede (Orta ve Güney Amerika) yaşayan çok eski bir kuş ailesidir. Devekuşu, rea, kasuari, kiwi, emu ve de insanların yiyerek soylarını tükettiği moalar ile dünyanın en büyük kuşu olan 730 kiloluk filkuşunun akrabası olan tinamular, diğer kuş türlerinin %99.5’inden farklı olarak, bu kuşlar gibi paleognath damağa sahiptirler. Ama bu diğer paleognath kuşların aksine, tinamular uçabilirler.
Tinamous are very difficult to see. #Threatened with #extinction (#Vulnerable), Black #Tinamou (#Tinamus osgoodi) is one of the rarest and most difficult of #tinamous, so I was ecstatic to photograph this one in southern #Colombia. Tinamous (#Tinamidae) are ancient #bird family native to the #Neotropics (Central and South America). As the only flying extant #paleognathous #birds, they share a similar palate structure with flightless #rheas, #ostriches, #emus, #cassowaries, #kiwis and extinct #moas and elephant birds (the largest bird ever recorded at 730 kg).

I still remember the girl Omayra Sanchez who was stuck under the rubble and alive for 60 hours but could not be rescued and died. Her legs were caught under a door made of bricks and her dead aunt’s arms were clutched tightly around her legs and feet. The volcano continues to threaten about 500,000 people that live around it.
