Ian McKellen Instagram – “55 years ago today, the West End lad looks as if he had a secret – perhaps that he wouldn’t be playing the two performances of “Lily in Little India” on matinée days, when he would be recording the BBC TV’s serial as “David Copperfield”. My understudy was David Cook, who later adapted his novel “Walter” for the first night of Channel 4 and gave me one of my most rewarding parts.”
