Meet Maryam. She’s ten years old and has only ever known war.
The conflict in Syria started ten years ago – today and for the rest of this week, we will bring you stories of children living in Syrian displacement camps. Ordinary kids who dream of peace, something they have never known.
Maryam lives with her family in a camp near Aleppo. She loves drawing and when she grows up she wants to be an architect. She still dreams of her house in Idlib.
“My dream is to not live in a tent anymore. I want to go back to my house. I want the war and bombing to end, and for all the people to love each other.”

Nearly ten years after the uprising in Syria, 6.7 million people, including over 2.5 million children, are displaced within the country and a further 6.6 million people have fled. Syria remains the world’s largest refugee crisis. Behind those incomprehensible numbers are individual people, just like Maryam, and just like you.
