While it was amazing and helped me in my career (I often opted to do my own stunts on NCISNOLA) after almost 10 years I was f’n bored 😑🥱😴 . After a while, the only aspect of my workout that inspired me was putting on a cute sports bra, some tiny shorts, a dope playlist (Some herb – way better than jittery Preworkout drinks) and watching my muscles in the mirror. But eventually, even that wasn’t enough to hold my interest. Enter pole. . The pole community is also incredibly inclusive. All body types, ages and genders are visible. My pole journey has helped me transform from the inside out. As a black lesbian, I’ve defined all the ways in which my sexuality, sensuality and view of myself has been shaped by the dominant culture. This was my Broadway debut and I had the magic of playing opposite the great Sigourney Weaver and the hilarious David Hyde Pierce. What a ride ✨✨ . Fun fact: even though I did the readings of this play from its inception as a one-act, when it was time to do the official run the producers didn’t think I was a good fit. Ever since I can remember, I believed any love or goodwill I would receive had to be earned. I constantly over worked in my relationships and friendships – to a toxic degree. . This belief, that I needed to earn love, was why I attracted so many unavailable people. People who reflected back to me my baseline unworthiness, that I wasn’t loveable or hard to be around. . I became aware of my part in my unhappy relationships and changed my mind. Instead of doing things for others in hopes that they will love me in return I started asking for what I want and need in my relationships and allowing people to decide if they can and want to meet those needs. Before I felt like a scared little girl who couldn’t make the most simple asks; now I feel like a loving and loveable woman who has needs and is worthy of them being met. . I grew up with this message that it is selfish to put myself first or to ask to have my needs met. In my adulthood, I’ve chosen new messages. 😘 .
